    Ethernet cable for xboxing

I am running some cabling thru my walls at the moment and want to run a cable from where i plan to have my cable modem to where i plan to have a Xbox.... I havent had a modem before and i am unsure of the cable to use, I know its a Ethernet but is Cate5 the right one? Do I buy the cable in lenths then somehow fit the plugs on the end?

you can buy the cables pre-made, they're used for connecting computers to networks all over so they're fairly cheap.

CAT5 is the cabling type, and refers to the quality of the cable you're using. CAT3&4 are low grade, CAT6 is better but more expensive. Aim for CAT5 or CAT5e.

If you're connecting it to a router, you'll need a "straight" cable. For connecting the xbox to a PC you'll need a crossover.

I wouldn't bother buying the cable and plugs seperately. In order to put the plugs on the cable you'd need a crimping tool, and it's a pain in the arse if you've never done it before. I'd avoid it unless you're looking at wiring up the entire house.

i really do need to put mine under the carpet, ive currently got a 20m cable running through the house and can't count the number of times i've come a cropper on it.
