Just for anyone who is interested heres some info on Leftroom Records, Matt Tolfrey and MarcAshken. LEFTROOM RECORDS Born in August of 2005 in Nottingham, England, Leftroom is the creation of Matt Tolfrey (Owner) and Shadi Megalla (A&R). Musically, it will be one of the first labels of its kind in the UK, showcasing the off centre house and minimal techno sound which is sweeping its way though clubland. Distributed by Intergroove UK, the first release will surface on the 5th of December 2005 and will feature tracks by Pheek, Ali Khan, Luka & Lazo and MarcAshken. With some established artists lined up for remixes, and more tracks hidden away in the office, Leftroom looks to be an exciting addition to the forward thinking music scene that continually inspires us. April 2006 saw the launch of Leftroom's sublabel, Leftroom Limited. Musically it will bring a new dimension to Leftroom as a whole, concentrating on anything that wobbles from straight up house, to techno and even the uplifting. First up is Tolfrey & Sylvester presents: Popeye-Spinach Disko, a slow brewing, techy, disco record, which is out end of May 06. MATT TOLFREY For the last few years, everything has been falling into place for Matt Tolfrey. He quickly stepped up from playing at local bars to holding down residencies at Stealth and The Bomb, two of the country’s most respected underground clubs. He’s been billed alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Damian Lazarus, Craig Richards, Ricardo Villalobos and Andy Weatherall to name just a (very) few. He’s played at some of the best clubs in the UK, including regular slots at Fabric, and worldwide he’s guested everywhere from Ibiza , to Berlin, to Australia. As well as all this, he’s running two of his own labels named Leftroom and Leftroom Limited (www.leftroom.com), and he has tracks signed to labels with co-producer Craig Sylvester. Recently Matt also has teamed up with Crosstown Rebels, by joining the new Rebel DJ Agency. So how did he come so far so quickly? The answer is simple. Matt is a workaholic with a seemingly tireless dedication to forging his own unique style. Drawing on everything from deep house and techno, through to stripped down bleeps and Germanic mayhem, he’s spawned his own hybrid strain of electronic funk. Anyone lucky enough to have already witnessed Matt in action will know that his particular brand of mutant-house has the power to win hearts and destroy minds on the dance floor. MARC ASHKEN Marc Ashken was born in August 1981 in Hammersmith, London. He has had an interest in music from a very young age. One of his earliest memories is taking his fathers harmonica's apart to see what made them work. Over the years Marc has attempted to learn various instruments including the keyboard, trumpet and guitar, never quite bonding with any and giving them up quickly. At the tender age of thirteen, Marc discovered dance music and decided to sell his SNES and his mates cd player to buy a pair of Pro 150 belt drive decks, and a shoddy 2 channel mixer. Over the years he has played a number of different styles of house music, finally settling with what is commonly known as minimal techno. Although Marc began as a DJ, its his production that has gained him most recognition in recent years. With productions already released and forthcoming on Perc Trax, Archipel, Esperanza, Safari Electronique and Leftroom. Marc is also co running a London based club night called Lather_Rinse_Repeat, with a record label planned in the near future.
