Good lad, this should be a cracker. Hopefully all the DJs will have some rabid support on the night.

DJ comps like this are poor like, it just turns into who has the most mates in the club wins?

The competition winner is not just decided by that, their is going to be a panel of judges too, who will be watching each contestant for technical skills, crowd interaction etc.

So it's not down to "who has the most mates in the club wins".
We had alot of entries for this competition and it was tough getting it down to the final 5, so they all done great to get this far. Well done lads and the best of luck on the night.

    Thanks
    Kirky

The only DJ comp I ever entered was worse than that.

It didn't matter that I had the whole bar dancing, got applauded off the decks, and generally got lots of good feedback.

What did matter was that I didn't play the Judge's favourite kind of music (Trance). Because I played house, I got a big fat 0. This is despite the fact that the comp was meant to be "all forms/genres of music"

Who won the competition? A lad who pulled out his pre-99 trance vinyl collection and played the 12 minute long version of silence in a 30 minute slot. He then subsequently cleared out the bar.

    Winner

What do they win? A residency, or set in the main room?

Competitions generally are just a ploy to get more punters through the door though. Good luck to them though.

lol @ Conway, reminds me of one i entered at balmbras in 1998 - the resident and friend of the judges ended up winning with a seamlessly mixed house set. no tricks or skills, just beat matched his way to victory. fantastic.

worst one i seen locally was at revolutions where the dj was kicking the shit out of the decks and not one of the "judges" was watching (which i made a point of telling one of them). kinda defeats the object when the judges dont know why they're there :drunk:

best comp i was in was 2004, beating the french dj champ was a canny buzz at the time, even though i only placed 3rd overall

last comp i went to see was this one, my arm gets tired a couple of times as i was mortal...

So how exactly does it work then? If there are judges then why are you asking for the opinions of the crowd?
