    Since these are so cheap im thinking of getting one to store mp3s on.Was just wondering if access times are a problem at all

    Nah nowt to worry about, they are like 7200RPM with an 8mb cache so they are quick.

    They will be USB2/Firewire too, which is fast.

    However, if you plan to run off USB1 then it will be an issue as it will be major bottleneck becuase its so slow.

    Its no problem at all and u wont even notice much on usb1 either. But witht he bandwidth of usb2 its pretty much the same as having an internal drive.

    You would definatley notice USB1 like, it's extremely slow, i've copied some stuff to my MP3 player on USB1 before and it took ages!

    Of course the max transfer rate for a given drive may be less than the capabilites of USB2 or firewire, but will far exceed the maximum rate at which USB1 can transfer.

    USB1 is only 12mbit/sec, USB2 is 440, Firewire is 400.

    Some external hard drives support speeds of up to 400mbit/sec.

    Bottlenecks galore if you used USB1 :p

    i hook mine up to my gfs wank laptop which uses usb1 all the time and yes if ur transfering files across its proper gash but if ur just using it to back up or listen to music from then u dont really notice a difference, think that was what i was gettin at.

    thats what I wanted to know if i click to open an mp3 would it load straight up as normal or take an age
