Dyer on strike... The cracks are starting to get bigger...if its true that Dyer has went on strike it will be interesting to see who goes first, him or Bobby!
I would reckon Butt and Bowyer will be First choice for centre mid. Sell him will get a canny bit for him i say
Probily not the way the transfer market is going lucky if we get 4mill. Howay example owen to Real 8mill plus a unheard midfielder bargain i say!!
So the crack with this story is Dyer wasnt happy about starting on the right wing but he was okay about being a sub & going on right wing late on the game. Strange
If he refused to play right wing I don't think he would of accepted being a sub & then go on the right wing when called into action.
Aug 16 2004 By The Evening Chronicle (Alan Oliver I think?) Newcastle United will listen to offers for Kieron Dyer after the England international disgracefully refused to play on the right wing for the club at Middlesbrough on Saturday. This will be the price Dyer will have to play for letting the club down. And in my view Dyer should not be allowed to wear the black-and-white shirt again. He should jump in his expensive car and drive over the Tyne Bridge - and try not to demolish it on the way out. The feeling among many at St James' Park is that Dyer is running out of credibility and that it's time he moved on. There is still a fortnight to go before the transfer deadline closes and United will accept £8m for Dyer - just about the same as Ruud Gullit paid for him five years ago. Dyer is paid an enormous amount of money to play football, not to act as a prima donna. And why Sir Bobby Robson, the man he has let down more than anybody, continues to protect him was the talking point among several United people I spoke to on Saturday night and again yesterday. After the conjunctivitis virus and their injuries, United needed everyone pulling in the right direction at Middlesbrough. And for Dyer to refuse to play in the position the manager wanted him in is completely unforgivable in my eyes - and in the eyes of many supporters. Dyer is now left with two options. He can ask for a transfer or he can apologise to everyone at Newcastle United. He did not look remotely interested when he came on as a substitute on Saturday and even before that when Robson was giving him his instructions he did not even give the manager the courtesy of looking at him. Contrast this with Robbie Elliott. The full-back was ignored by Robson for the whole of last season. Yet he played out of position at The Riverside and he also played with obvious pride in his black-and-white shirt. About the only thing that Dyer got right was to refuse the captain's armband when Alan Shearer went off. Shearer only handed the armband to Dyer because he was the closest player to him, and reports that Robson planned to make Dyer his vice-captain this season could not have been wider of the mark. Robson will now give that job to either Nicky Butt or Stephen Carr. Robson says that he did not pick Dyer on Saturday because the midfielder felt some tightness in his hamstring. If this is the case, why didn't Robson leave him out completely? The only pity is that Dyer's actions robbed United of the headlines they richly deserved for a battling performance at Middlesbrough.
I'm surprised Robson didn't drop him from the squad completely if that was his attitude. That's the line I would've taken with him :tut: Feck off and train with the kids....its the only way to sort these upstarts out!
hes shit and you could tell by looking at his face he wasnt happy about sitting on the bench against smoggies, but tbh hes just one of these players that puts his head down and runs into a brick wall, get rid of him i say
Bobby doesn't strike me as one who would take crap like that from anyone. And if he did it would surely undermine his authority! Only thing is Alan Oliver usually knows the score at SJP doesn't he?
I've thought for a while Dyer was crap and we should get rid. I wonder who would want him though. Probably not the sort of clubs he'd expect. Someone once said to me - and I agree with this - that it would be a brilliant piece of business to buy Dyer for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth. As I say.. get rid, and not just for this incident but because he's not the "talented youngster" everyone expected him to be.
we could have got nearly £20 million for him only a year ago...i would have been guted if he had gone but looking back now...
Just an example of a young man whose ego has outgrown him. At the en dof the day he's paid to be part of a football team. not for the team to revolve around him. Bobby's in charge and if he doesn't like it he can shove it. The days of player power are coming to an end (as seen with the Michael Owen contract saga recently), Dyer better realise he's a player and not an institution.
