    Dual CPU Motherboards

Anyone got a system using one of these?

Am building a new comp and am considering it. Although I have heard you can get a device which enables you to run two cpu's on a board designed for single CPU usage?

    Anyone got any advice?

you don't need one unless you're running a server or a PC thats going to be doing lots of CPU-intensive work...

if you need something quick just get a dual-core cpu instead :)

yep, usually twice the price of normal boards, and thats just the entry level ones...

you usually need to fit them with identical CPUs too otherwise the whole thing refuses to work.

Might just go for a dual core cpu instead then.

Am trying to keep this new comp quite cheap

    I've got a VP6 that I've had for years.

It has two 1ghz pentium 3s. It's really old now but for desktop prouctivity it's about the same to use as my 3ghz pentium 4.

These days you are better looking at a dual core processor rather than 2 seperate proc'. Check out the new core duo 2 if you are wanting to have a really good multitasking system. It's not quite 2 cpus but they are about 80% as good and far cheaper.

By far the best cpu available at the mo..

Be aware that you'll need a new mb and some DDR2 RAM for this upgrade too..

Also.. you might need a pci-e graphics card (if you own an agp model at the mo)..

    And possibly a new PSU..
