    DSL

The box will likely be labelled DSL/Cable router.

You can't use the ADSL ones as they have a build in modem for the ADSL line, whereas a DSL/Cable router still uses a connection from the existing modem. ADSL is a different technology and has a different from of connection to the net to Cable.

A bit of overkill on your actual question but at least you know what you need :p

Re: Re: DSL or ADSL router?

type n is overkill for a house :p

b and g do the job perfectly for home/office use.

plus I'm immediately suspicious of any router with a belkin badge, I've had nowt but bother with it

Rossy's in the know on these things, if you want any recommendations you should PM him - he probs won't see this thread.

Re: Re: Re: DSL or ADSL router?

Overkill? Why not have the fastest & best? If you wanna save money on a router then I would agree with you.

I know what your saying about Belkin as I had one and the firmware was shit (wouldnt let me port forward). I bought the Netgear that Chris says is shit but it has worked a treat for me.

I guess all routers can fuck up and if they do just exchange it. If you buy from pc world they'll swap it no problem.

Oh and the answer to the origional question - Cable is neither DSL or ADSL it is Cable. ADSL is a type of DSL.

Any router should work with cable (all netgear products do) . You dont need one with a modem inside as this will be provided by you cable provider.

Re: Re: Re: Re: DSL or ADSL router?

Fastest & best isn't always the best solution ;) there are g routers on the market that offer 108mbps already (providing you use their proprietary standard).

I've not had a belkin at home but I've had to replace 3 for friends who've bought them on a deal from PC world and they've been nowt but bother, one of them kept forgetting it's config after a week

Linksys all the way for me - never had any bother with it, it's been switched on for about a year solid now :D
