Drug decriminalisation in America/the rest of the world

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2009/dec/27/cannabis-legal-america-ski-resort

First Russia, decriminalising possession of small amounts of drugs. Then Argentina.

In august Mexico did the same and Argentina followed suit. A knock-on effect is expected in latin America, which considering the pressure that the American government exert over there, is a big thing really.

A month or two ago The Czech Republic decriminalised psychedelic plants, other drugs are thought to be next.

So does anyone on here still think we won't see a pretty much worldwide legislation within our lifetimes? Seen quite a bit of progression over these last few years with decriminalisation now found on three continents.

I highly doubt it would ever happen in this country, if anything we're getting worse.

You've got to luck at the bigger picture though pete, Earth today consists of people from the first generations of advanced society; the dawning of education & technology is only recent.

Open minded attitudes will prove to be a natural progression that spawns from education and the spread of information in my opinion, even if the people in power just now do currently appear to be for want of better words, really quite thick.

    Little baby steps.

ahhh but contrary to what I said before, this isn't yet an advanced society brid.

It is an advanced world inhabited by mere post-neanderthals.

    True enough.

I think the reclassification of cannabis to class B sends the signal loud and clear that the powers that be dont like any of us worker bee's doing anything other than their heavily taxed 'official' drugs.

I'd say its gonna get MORE punitive, not less.

the innate puritanism of Americas founders and the religious there have driven the whole drugs regime around the world for the past 100 years. Alcohol prohibition was a step too far and they had to u turn on that one, but the series of international agreements sponsored by the US over the past century are the main stumbling block to individual countries liberalising. Nobody can make supplying drugs legal even if they make possession something not prosecuted. However the colossal madness of the war on drugs must, at some time, come up against reality. Cannabis laws are starting to be reformed in countries where the majority of legislators have direct experience of the drug and are thus able to reach an informed decision. expect laws on ecstasy to be slowly relaxed from 2040.

erm, yeah. Did anybody think Russia and Mexico would? The writings on the wall I'm afraid teknofish.

America is one of the places in the world where weed legalisation concerning medical use is looking to be more and more likely in the near future. There is a lot of debate about it. Did you read the article in my first post? It's already been decriminalised completely in two areas.

The governments are realising the war on drugs has failed (evidently) but there is a lot of politics still tied into it all, because their propaganda was completely lapped up by a lot of their people and now they need the votes.

But new generations are coming through. The political system isn't going to stay the way it is forever. People know its fucked and it will change.

Do these countrys even have laws?

Iv been sitting on shares for weed medicine for nearly 6 years now the british and us goverments wont budge on allowing them to be used even tho its proven to stop pain from cancer and ms. Spain and Canada allow them tho but the uk wont, the word is its because nothing good can be shown to come from the devil weed.

It does look possible they are weakening tho esp in the usa but i am sick of holding my breath

drugs justify police. the government likes lots of police.

there will always be some war on 'something' that will justify the need for the cops.

Power could not be maintained properly otherwise.

Plus, read about the CIA and IRAN Contra and how government agencies sell drugs themselves to covertly fund other activities around the world .... its the perfect scam.
