Drinking causing liver disease in 20's

On the radio this morning, doctors are saying apparently that they are seeing people in their mid twenties with liver disease - when in the past they would expect men in their 50's who had been drinking all their lives to be coming in with these problems.

We have a SERIOUS problem in this country, and licensing laws have little to do with it i think.

I was on a site a few weeks back :

    http://www.howsyourdrink.org.uk/home.php

And did the online test - I based it on what i was usually getting through a few months back. The results were eye opening to say the least.

Think about all the drink you get through these days - Can you go a week/day/month without alcohol? I know i cant .... its quite worrying.

We need some kind of social change that moves us away from needing to get permanently blitzed to have a good time - I wonder what that might be?

Saw this on the news last night.. they said it had gone up - but it didn't mention what age groups - i assumed that if it WAS younger people, they would have been on the old 'binge drinking culture' band wagon...

let's see what mine comes out as..

    EDIT :

    You scored 13.
    Feedback

    * Your drinking is medium risk and you are likely to be drinking above safe levels.
    * You are more likely to experience harm as a result of your drinking than most people.
    * This means that you are more likely to have accidents, social / psychological problems and have a higher risk of developing alcohol dependency problems in the future.
    * You may not have experienced harm so far and if you are able to cut down, you should be able to avoid serious problems.
    * Your score is higher than 73.5% of UK adults.

EEHHH?? i only go out once a month. scaremongering fuckers

I once saw a 24 year old who'd been admitted to hospital with liver cirrhosis - I found it truly shocking, and the fact that I'd been pissed the night before made me stop and have a serious think :(

same here really, although 1 after work occaisonally leads to 4 or 5.

though by moving away from the area i'm not going to go to the football half as much on a weekend anymore and thats where my worst drinking is done. so i'll probably live. :)

Yes my drinking has gone down in the last few months because i haven't been watching football. So maybe in order to stop the country drinking so much we should ban football ?!?

I wonder what we need to do, to make Britain more like - say the rest of europe when it comes to drinking?

What is it specifically that they do/have/have done to have more control over themselves as a nation, and a healthy respect towards it.

I wonder if its something to do with the breakdown of the family unit, and people tending to deliberately separate themselves from the rest of their brothers, sisters, parents etc etc... which like it or not are more likely to fulfill us and let us know we're doing something wrong or damaging ourselves long before our friends/mates do?

I know for sure all the French and Italian families ive come into contact with seem to look at their families as everyone from newborns, up to their grandparents - and thats NOT limited to immediate family. We seem so reserved by comparrison and unable to mix?

Perhaps our thirst for what we call success and maturity is at the root of our addiction as a nation to alcohol.

The rest of Europe have a more relaxed approach to life in general. In England we have the work hard, play hard mentality.
    Work less, that's what i say !! :0)

Thank you for taking the test.

    You scored 37.
    Feedback

    * You are at the highest level of risk and your drinking appears to be very harmful.
    * You are likely to be physically dependent on alcohol and will have experienced significant harm as a result of your drinking.
    * Continuing to drink at these levels is very damaging, but you should not stop drinking today as you risk withdrawal symptoms, which can be medically dangerous.
    * 96.4% of UK adults drink more safely than you.

this is my results of before christmas :(

i have cut right down though to just weekend drinking

still think the damage may already have been done though :(
