    Drink Driving

At 3:30am this morning my sister and her bf had a little argument and he ended up walking out the house and went and sat in his car around the corner. All this was unknown to me until my sister came into my room 10mins later during a Lady Dana set that had obviously restricted our hearing during the whole "policeman came into house and blabbed on for a bit" situation. After going around the corner me and my m8's seen an unmarked police car pulled up next to my sisters bf's car and to cut a longish story short he got arrested for being over the limit.

Are there certain types of drink driving offences? I'd imagine blairing down the A1 after 15 shots of vodka would result in a more hefty punishment than simply sitting in a car.

I have no idea how the police ended up finding him because my estate is primarily occupied by goody-goody family's and older people and there's never any bother around here so I think some pesky little nobend with nothing better to do at 3:30am in the morning decided to phone the police as soon as they heard a door slam.

    :(

if he's in the car with the keys - thats all it takes - he could have already been somewhere/going somewhere

he may get a light sentance if the circumstances are explained - AND he explained them all at the time of arrest - otherwise it'll just sound like the other 1,000,000 drunk-driver excuses the feds will have heard....

one of my mates had about 2, 2 1/2 pints and was banned for 12months! He's done a course tho which knocked 1/3 off his ban.

same here - if i'm driving - i'll have nothing, to be on the safe side. Even if i've had a drink during the day - i'll not drive anywhere afterwards no mateer how late it is/how early i had the drink.

my only problem is the day after a skin full - i never know where it's safe to drive

yeah me too- it is hard to tell just how much is still in your system after a heavy night out

even 1 pint of stella puts you over the limit, for the sake of one pint its just not worth it is it?

im the same, if i drink in the day i wont drive at night

Yep. I believe that in theory you can be done for being drunk and having your car keys on you, even if you are not in the vehicle, as you are officially in charge of it. I don't know if anyone has actually been prosecuted for this though.

    thats unlucky :(

I usually have one if im going down the pub for an hour or two, then have a few cokes.

    Never more than one like!

Alcohol stays in the system for 24 hours so if you have a real skinful then you could still get done the next day...that's what you need to be careful of like,

Hmm... within an hour or posting this msg there was a knock on the door and he was back  He'd only been in the station for little more than an hour then they'd given him a lift back here. The police said they don't think anything will happen apparently. Something to do with the story that was told at the time of the arrest. "He had an argument with my sister, and left the house, stopping at his car on the way to get a cd and some money before walking home" or something along the lines of that.

Weird law this one imo. I'm not quite sure what to expect as a result of it all.
