    Downloading...

As most people know illegal downloading is a major fuckin problem in the music industry!

Basically if illegal downloading continues the industry and scene could collapse!

This will have an bad effect for all of us as Punters and Workers in the scene.

Now anyone that says they have never downloaded anything illegally is bullshitting bascially to be honest..

I download stuff all the time, but the big factor is if i like a tune i'll go and buy it and support the artist/label etc

i find downloading a good way of listening to tunes and trying them out but i always buy tunes i like.

i think downloading is ok as long as people are willign to buy the material they actualy like, i mean many time have i been stuck with a tune that is so wank its untrue but sounded good in shop/online sound clip etc

just wanted to know peoples feelings on this...

i only download mixes mainly - or the odd very osbure/hard to find track - but thats it.

i doubt the scene would colapse - in some ways, it's forcing it to move with the times - the large record companies have had it easy for far too long - i mean, £80 million for robbie? the mariah carey fiasco? these fat cats need to lose some weight and re-look at how the 'industry' works... u can't stop technology.

i do agree that if u like something - you should buy it

sorry kid i didnt explain my self clearly enough i was talking in relation to the dance scene.

and if illegal downloading continues that could be the case that it collapses

if people continue to steal their tunes then the releases arent gonna sell aswell

if the releases dont sell the label lose money as do th artists, if the label cant continue cos it dont sell enough units then the distrubters loses business and loses money

if the distributer cant continue then who is going to ditribue to the shops

if there is noone to distribute to the shops then the shops dont have stock then no tunes for sale

    u kinda get the idea...

collapse is a bit strong... it won't go away... it'll just go 'underground'

I do download but as you say in your statement ... if i like it i'll go buy it. Yeah downloading is great as you dont pay so you think "thats the price i like ... " but then if everyone downloads and doesnt pay the whole system will crash down. Thats why if i like something i'll buy it !!!

Its a good way of seeing if a program you fancy is going to fit the job you want it to .. and to hear full tracks before you buy them.

    :D ;)

    Re: Downloading...

 well, basically, to be honest, i use d/l programs all the time, i dont feel guilty, its there and im a student. :) like the idea of d/l from the apple site or summat similar, just paying a small price for it, as its good quality etc. buying cd's and records is such a rip imo. basically, to be honest

Do you work for the RIAA?

I really don't buy the concept that all the producers will just give up making music one day.

I think most people that make 'good music' in the world would continue to make music even if there was little or no money to be made from it.

Bands will make the cash on merch and tours, dance producers will make the money on live pas and djing etc, the musical world will not end!!! :D

Yeah but I really don't see how? People will still make music, djs will still play music, people will still dance to music.

The only thing I think will die as a result of downloading is vinyl.

The music industry isnt losing a penny as far as I'm concerned, I don't DJ, or sell any of the music i download and its mostly sets anyway.

Are set recordings other than the ones on radio one actually legal? Do radio 1 have to specificly ask permission from each producer of a tune in a set to be recorded?

recording off the radio is illegal although u aint gonna be busted for it tbh, but if u start selling it u cud be

most artists have it in their contracts that the event cant record their sets etc

but you do get some venues that do

well actually the music industry is losing money because the music that you can buy from the shops you are choosing to download isntead  therefore losing sales and losing money

so if people are downlloading there music for free and not buying it fromt he shops how are the shops going to make money???

i people are downloading them for free and not buying them then the labels wont shift as many units at all then could be forced to go bust

if the labels go bust and the shops are going bust the distributers loose business and dont make money either

and in my eyes thats the scene collapsing
