    Downloading AVI files

Whenever I download a well known channel 4 programme which has just started again in the States I'm having problems with the file. It seems to download fine but when I try to play it, or even open it in Windows Explorer, I get an error message and either WMP, Real or WE shuts down!?!?!!

    Anybody got any ideas?!?!

That happens to me with some programmes, quite often actually.

You tried playing them in VLC?

If its the same problem, they all seem to play in VLC.

It does that too. Fuck knows why. It's very annoying. Thought it was just my computer. I always get the chance of clicking on the file before I have to close the window though.

    Sorry I can't help mate.

Edit: Sorry if this is obvious, but have you tried running it without opening the explorer window (e.g straight through File > run or whatever in the media player)?

It could be something to do with your os having trouble displaying the thumbnail image for the file..

Try opening it in vlc by typing in the command line instead..

    ie.. C:\Program files\a\lsot.avi :p

I used to get this problem with .mds files. Opening the browse window with the file in it would result in the whole lot closing. I didn't even have to click on it.

Was a total bitch when I stored one of them on my windows desktop. The fun I had trying to solve that problem was paramount.

Luckily I didn't nned to use these files so i never bothered with them again. Formatting windows erased the problem.
