    Download speeds

Why is it that despite having a 512kbs broadband, my pc will only ever download at 56kbs at the most?

    1. Your sharing yer line with others within a certain radius of your home (like your street or a collection of streets)

    2. It depends on the server you connect to to download something from, on whether it can pump out more than 56k and if the line it is attached to is sharing with others too.

    3. Bandwidth ... if the server only has allowed say 1gig per month bandwidth and there is 100 people downloading one track of 10 meg they have to limit the amount of people connecting or the bandwidth to make sure they dont go over the limit. if that makes sense

Your connection is 512 kiloBYTES per second.

You download at about 52 kiloBITS per second.

A bit is roughly .1 of a byte.

    Yeah, it's a con.
