Doom 3... I like... doesnt try to be too clever but is phenomenally beautiful, massively atmospheric and involving... if ur system can do it justice (which mine now can ) then go get it! not good for people who dont like dark 'thriller' type games... cos it's nearly made me brick my pants twice already.
well, it was meant to be in joint development alongside the pc version, although from what im hearing the pc version got too far ahead in terms of technical quality, which has in turn pushed the xbox launch back to a rather vague 'early 2005'.
seen the xbox demo, looks better than it will run on most mid to lower high range pc's, due out possibly b4 xmas most likely just after halo 2 will more than satisfy until then
damn right... on a high end system this thing WILL make you brick your pants... been a while since ive played a game and had that 'should i open this door? ' feeling.... top notch.... first time you see one of the big four legged beasts with robotic back legs burst trough a barrier, pin you in a room and start bashing the door down is a great moment
I though it was OK but got boring after a while, too linear, is good for a blast but there's loads better FPS games about, was expecting something really speacial as well. shame.
yeh, story wise it aint all that, but then - it's doom... raw edgy edge of ur pants gaming at it's best... and technically i think they have pushed some neat boundaries back with it... im pretty pleased with it on the whole, i aint been able to stop playin since i got it, and thats always a good sign still, half life 2 is gonna maul it when it FINALLY comes out seeing as i upgraded my system to play this / half life 2 i may go back and play far cry again, cos i didnt enjoy that as much i thought i would, and it may have been partially down to my system struggling with it.
AvP was great... i was bricking it on the Marine missions Bloody motion detector sound fills my pants every time
yip, AVP was a great indicator of how atmosphere can be built in less 'obvious' ways... near the start, hearing the motion detector, seeing a dark shadow up ahead, bricking it and emptying a full clip into aforementioned shadow, only to find that it was actually a crane arm on a chain swinging in the wind ranks up there as a great gaming atmosphere moment
Av got: Athlon XP 2400+ 1Gig DDR 128MB GeForce FX5200 and it runs like SHIT - lol...gotta have it min gfx etc and low resolution...... what the hell does it need?!?!?
Intel? Naaa...intel always come back with a better chip BRIEFLY then AMD jus show em hows its done AGAIN Its the gfx card - its a cheapy one, didnt get it for games tbh jus started playing em again on pc...drawback is i need to run windows
I've got: An AMD Athlon xp2600 overclocked to well above 3200 speed. 1gb pc3500 ram Abit NF7-S motherboard Sata HD Radeon 9800pro graphics and it runs pretty smooth on 1024 x 748 with all the eye candy on
You should just get a second hand xbox if you want to play doom 3- be a load cheaper than a top end graphics card!!
