    Anybody been? What's it like?

Thinking of going in October, nice hotel is just over 600 quid fully inclusive including flights..which seems a good deal!

Anybody know what the weather is like then?

a few of my family members have been and have said its similar to jamacia, stay in the resort, or get involved in some propra gansta warfare.

otherwise - its really nice :)

    what mistaK said.
i went a couple years ago all inclusive. If you get the chance go horseriding, its absolutely amazing. One other thing, be careful when eating the fruit, sometimes its not washed properly. I ate all the junk cooked food and was fine but my lass just ate loads of fruit and spent a week in hospital when we got home with amoebic dystentry, whatever that is but she was bloody ill.

Yeah i'd heard about both staying in the resort and being careful with the food.

I think i'll stick to chips and salad

Are the resorts generally quite big?

tell you what it is about the dominican.. you will get the shits like you have never had the shits before..

very lucky if you don't.. I thought my stomach was going to come out my backside at one point.

other than that it's as they say.. dodgey if you wander too far from resort.. we went through a small town/city (not a major one)and it was a eye opener..

nice snorkling if you are on Carribean/beachy side rather than rocky side.. dont expect much to do.. unless you want to spend a small fortune on day trips all the time

To be honest it's pretty much just a chill out on the beach type holiday, with a few drinks at night!

Changed our mind with hotel, going for the grand palladium palace resort now.. http://www.grandpalladiumbavaroresorts.com/

Re the shits....well I survived Thailand...but we shall see. Few of my mates have been and have avoided it, but i will just have to pack loads of diocalm

I went to the North side a few Xmas' back in Playa Dorada weather was brilliant but was a bit disappointed the beaches didn't have the white sand.

Goiong back this Xmas but to the other side in Bavaro as have been told it's much nicer. Never had any problems with the food nor with going out fo the complex, there were some good bars just outside the hotel complex, although Playa Dorada itself has big security guards at the entrance to it with guns

well the reviews were decent but the feedback for the Grand Palladium Palace was better and it's got a higher rating from Thomsons. It did look good mind, I guess we will just have to see!!

    I'm staying in Baravo too

stayed in the south was lovely, best holiday iv had but as has bn mentioned........ venture out of the complex at your own risk, we did....... we got 2 mile out and turned back, the locals are less than welcoming

walked into a local nightclub and found ourselves to be the only 2 whites in there (apart from the eyeballs).. it wasnt pleasant tbh
