you can get them from about £200 upwards that use MiniDV cassettes, slightly more for the DVD or HD ones. i've got a miniDV one and it's perfect
Re: Re: Digital Camcorders??? still can't get away from u mentioning her name - EVEN in the geeks forum.
Re: Re: Digital Camcorders??? sussed ian: thats a little high end i think for what i am after mos: whats the difference in formats and how easy is it to get yours onto dvd
Re: Re: Re: Digital Camcorders??? MinDV - it's a digital cassette (digitally recorded rather than old analogue tapes in older cameras) DVD - the camcorder burns it directly to a mini (3") DVD HD - built in hard disk (expensive) hard disk ones are the way forward but you're limited to the save on the internal drive. MiniDV tapes - get a firewire card for your PC - plug the cable in, open movie maker (in XP) and 'import video'. piece of piss. Then, Nero will burn it onto DVD with menus and everything if u want
I've found miniDV to be really easy to use. With fireWire you can control the cam directly from your PC/Mac to import the content. I've got a pretty crap sony cam from about 7 years ago (so early minidv) but the quality is still spot on. HD still seems a bit pointless until blueray & HDVD players, burners & disks are affordable, for camcorders anyway as the chances are you will just downscale it before you watch it anyway.
yeah, definately, burning it straight to DVD while in the camcorder seems a bit 'final' - much better to import it then chop it around in your PC
