snip a tiny bit off the bottom, all the way around then stick them in the washer a few times :)

Not the side you grate cheese with, but the other side with loads of sharp tiny holes.

sandpaper is supposed to work but i have always used my method, to be perfectly honest im too scared to try sandpaper/ cheese grater on my clothes incase it goes wrong but i have always used the washing machine. dont worry if it looks shit when you first cut them! the washing machine sorts i out, i advise you to stick them in 3 times (or untill they look the way you want them too) :)

use a steak knife to cut it or rip it with your bare hands, so its not a perfect cut. once theyv been in the washer a few times it'll fray itself. that what i do

a hack saw is the best way. just use it to fray the edges and it works mint.

Run the sharpest side of a cheese grater over it a bit, then pick at the edges a bit if you have fingernails, to give an inconsistent/uneven fray.

DO NOT wash denim, at least not unnecessarily. Six months should be an absolute minimum time period between washes.

Denim is a durable material and is not designed to be washed once a week. It obviously depends on the denim, it doesn't matter how much you wash cheap denim, but assuming that most of you are into 'proper' denim, washing it too much will completely shag the denim.

If you have dry/selvage denim, washing it too early will lock in the dye and it will go a horrible colour, look shit, and waste about £100 of your hard-earned. Wearing dry denim for a while before washing it means it'll crack and the dye will bleed in all the right places, so when you eventually have to wash your jeans, you'll have a nice pair of jeans which are washed/faded/distressed in all of the right places.

Washing pre-treated denim too much won't really affect the colours, but it'll make the denim turn fucking horrible and unbearably uncomfortable within a few months. Jeans are supposed to be personal and comfortable, not skin-tight and akin to wearing cardboard.
