Curfew Time 5 May - King Unique, Serge Santiago and Udberg 5th of May - it's Curfew Time. King Unique - Serge Santiago - Scott Udberg King Unique's bi-monthly Turnmills residency is once again looming large on the calendar. KU will be performing their new improved more-knobs-and-sliders Ableton set for the first time in London - so expect even more techno-trickery and Loud Electronic Dirt in the booth than normal. You still want more? OK, how about one of the hottest producers of the last 5 years, the Italo-house don himself, Serge Santiago. Prolific remixer, former Radio Slave and DJ-ing maestro who established himself at the legendary Stompaphunk in Brighton, Serge will be bringing his trademark electro-funk sound to Curfew Time. Plus, to heat things up at the start of the evening we have The Man From The North himself - Scott Udberg - one of the finest DJs to come out of the icy frozen wastes of Newcastle. Udberg's superb support sets for both of KU's recent Newcastle gigs helped make both nights legends. The Man From The North's going for the hatrick at Curfew Time... Photos and a one-hour live mix from King Unique's opening night set in March are now online. Big up to everyone who came down to Turnmills and rammed the place out. Loud electronic dirt on the soundsystem, LED badges and watches de rigueur in the DJ booth, freaky dancing from the freaks on the dancefloor - we love it. As well as two hours of mutant riff house from the KU there were great sets from the boy Talk and the Mojo like Paolo. We'll be seeing more of them later this year, subject to negotiating their outrageous contractual demands - seriously James, what are you going to do with 8 hookers that you couldn't do with 6? GU Wink King Unique + Turnmills = Curfew Time. See you there. We're giving away 10 FREE guest list places for you fine dudes. If you fancy a night out on the dirt and you can get yourself to London on the 5th of May then drop an email to list@kingunique.com and we'll put your name in the hat. First five names we pull out on the 28th will get free entry for themselves and the mate/love interest of their choice. BIOGS King Unique are two guys called Matt who make rough-edged dirty house music, Matthew Roberts and Matt "Watkins" Thomas, a pair of studio junkies with a taste for bulldozer beats and sick synthesizers. Over the last five years their records, remixes and re-edits have hit home with house-heads, nu-ravers and electro-rockers alike, being championed by everyone from Sasha to Soulwax, Danny Howells to Tiesto, and Pete Tong to Zane Lowe. Their music has turned up everywhere from Hollywood soundtracks to mobile ringtones. Their decks'n'fx DJ sets have made them regulars in some of the world's most respected clubs and biggest festivals, while the "King Unique Broadcast" radio mix series regularly airs to countries across the globe. Their latest remix, Teamsters "Feels Like Love" reached No.1 in both the Buzz and Coolcuts charts, and is continuing to pick up Radio 1 airplay. More info at www.kingunique.com Serge Santiago is one of the hottest producers in the UK. Influenced by italo disco records, his unique electro sound has been projected to the forefront of the dance music scene and his colourful releases have become indispensable and coveted DJ tools. Serge’s reputation was originally forged by his remix work under the pseudonym of Radioslave (remix team comprising of Serge and Matt Edwards). The prolific partnership resulted in the release of over 30 remixes in two years with highlights including reworks of Kylie Minogue, Fisherspooner and Tiga. The partnership came to an end in 2002 since when Serge has pursued an equally succesful solo career, including launching his own Arcobaleno imprint. Most recently he has just put the finishing touches on the new Goldfrapp single, commissioned by the lady herself and already receiving regular plays on Radio 1. More info at www.stompaphunk.com Having served in Chechnya, Vietnam and Sunderland as a Black Ops specialist Scott Udberg turned his back on a military career to spend more time on his natural passion, manning the decks as a wedding DJ. After years playing the support slot to sausage rolls and deep filled vol-au-vents Udberg's risk-taking selections and pioneering soundclash megamixes have now ensured him top spot at (most) wedding receptions. The Man From The North has also been known to occasionally prostitute his art by playing at some of the finest house nights in the North East, including the fabled Shindig and scruffy young upstart Habit. More info is available by leaning over the booth and asking Scott whatever it is you want to know.
Have the sneaky suspicion that this should be a good laugh. Think I will use the first hour or so to ease people in with some well known social club numbers, have a little break for some bingo and buffet treats. Then we're going for an all out onslaught with seminal bombs such as: Kelly Marie - Feels Like Iam In Love (My Heart It Beats Like A Drum) Black Lace- Superman Dixie & The Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen Amy Stewart - Knock On Wood And if things get really frisky: Bucks Fizz - Makin' Your Mind Up
Whats that remix of Goldfrapp - Number one, that was on their last curfew time mix ....... anyone know it? Im not ashamed to say i love it!
