    CueBase

I've just helped build a pc for a friend, AMD Athalon xp 1800+, 512mb ram, tons of HD, XP Corporate, everything else runs fast as fuck, inc Reason, but he says Cue Base runs slower than on his old Pentium II?

Any ideas if you need to tweak CueBase for XP, or what the reccomended min specs are. Not sure what version, but prob something recent? Also, will CueBase use multi processors? He's thinking about swapping his mobo and slapping an extra xp 1800+ in there

I know nothing about CueBase, so have no idea where to start :(

Cubase is a very fussy app like most music sound apps........ I build a machine for Cubase alone & used WinME. Runs excellent on that.

I have never used Windows XP due to the conficts it has with varoius s/w & h/w.

Ta, it's a dual-boot machine, I'll try it in ME. Any idea if DirectX 9.0 will help?

Not sure, never used XP but heard it it fussy.

    Cubase uses LOTS of resources.

You have got Anti-Virus etc running have you?

no, not connected to the net. Might have Norton Utilities running tho, I'll check. Gonna start up Performance Manager and see what's happening, try Directx 9.0, try Win Me, and see if these help

With an XP 1800, 512mb ram, and about 80gb of free HD, hard to see what it's struggling with. Maybe it needs to be configured for XP?

    Cubase...

Sounds obvious, but do you have the correct drivers installed to use Cubase with XP?

    Check the ASIO setup.

Check the STARTUP in XP; see what is being loaded with the boot and look at what is using memory after booting.

Check the audio option; is it playing slow? Is it stuttering? Is it bleeping and squeeking as it plays? Is it crackling?

After that, be more specific as to how it is slow and I will give you further advice.

    Lee :)
