at the riverside he was awesome.

he is a total nightmare to play against. he created 2 and scored another.

    think he deserves a shot.

Does it make a difference how they are scored they all go the scoreboard as one goal.

And just maybe if scoring pens was so easy England would have something by now.

    give ur head a shake!

Players like Henry, Rooney and Shevchenko are class, Peter Crouch is nothing more than a average Premier League player who plays a club fighting releation and which plays long balls all the time.

defoe was utter shite at the weekend, totally ineffective and rightly taken off 10 mins into the second half.

don't think he is ready to make the transition to international football just yet. maybe by the end of next season.

Average player in a shite team which makes him look better than he actually is! Johnson is an over ageing baldy little twat. Same again - average player shite team

Defoe hasn't been all that since January really, a bit hot and cold - fair enough since he's only young. On current form Robbie Keane should be playing ahead of him at Spurs.

But he's still showing flashes of excitement/skill and is rightly in the England squad  He's better than Johnson and the other pretenders.

As for Crouch - he's not just a big lump to hit the ball long to, he's actually a very accomplished footballer on the deck. He can bring others into play, his touch, control and passing are all excellent. Could be quite a find or another 1-cap wonder

Lastly i'm delighted to see Michael Carrick get a deserved recall. No doubt i'm showing a bit of bias here but he really is a high-class anchor man midfielder. His ability to read the game and intercept (as opposed to tackle) the oposition is superb from a deep-lying midfield position. His passing range is also excellent - which is what separates him from the other midfield contenders. Possession is everything in international football. Hope Sven gives him a good run-out in the US (especially since i'm going ;) )

i agree that defoe is better than johnson, i just don't think either of them are ready for full blow international footy yet. being involved will help them develop though, look at the difference in joe cole this season.

with regards carrick, he is in on merit, but can you really say he will ever be ahead of gerard and lampard in the centre position. he has a tough task to ever stand a chance of holding down a regular england place.

spurs have got the best midfield in the prem as far as strength in depth goes.

Carrick, Davis, Davies, Atouba, Edman, Brown, Reid......

probs get hargreeves in the summer aswell.

you judge him on one game????

Defoe is never going to be a first team starter but hes a ready and able sub and has been involved in the England first team squad a while now so hes made the transition.
