    Credit cards

Basically, i need about £400/£500 to add to my spending money budget for my holiday in less than 2 weeks time but I know nothing about credit cards.

Can I get a card in time for then?

If so, what do you recommend? I just tried applying for a Sainsbury's card but I was declined. I have a full time job although it's shit and I'm going to college again in september but shh. The only bad thing about my account with my bank is that i've ran into the -£8 or so a few times. I'm guessing it's either because of that or because im still living at home?

I'm sure people here will have credit cards even though they aren't great with money.

ps. I need an interest free for **-months type of card if possible,.

    cheers :)

Harper thats the first reply I've read from u that wasn't mindless bollocks/grief/bollocks ;)

However, am I right in assuming bank loans come with a pretty steep interest rate? Hence my craving for an interest free credit card!

A bank loan is my fall back plan but I'd rather get something that is a 'loan' rather than a 'I'll lend u some dosh hew but i want loads of extra moolah back like'.

See what an overdraft can do 4 ya budo! they're better 4 the short term but it depends on ya pennies in general.

You pay interest on overdrafts in various ways though don't you?

An interest-free crsdit card for 9 months or whatever woul be great because i could use a few hundred quid on holiday then pay it back without paying anything extra.

as a student i had a £2000 interest free overdraft... if you're off you college you might be able to blag smaller one or a decent loan... have a word with a few banks.

credit cards are more hassel than they're worth... unless you manage to pay them back quickly of course, which rarely happens.

Im on there atm. I'm totally oblivious to how credit cards work though and what different kinds there are. Im in the midlde of applying and it's going on about my bank details saying:

When you apply for an Egg Card, you'll also set up a monthly Direct Debit. You can choose any of the following options:

    * Pay the minimum amount every month. This is the default option.

    * Pay the full amount every month.

    * Pay a fixed amount every month. If your balance is less than your fixed payment, we'll only take the amount due.

Whats this all about? I understand that if i use the egg card to buy a russian bride or whatever the money paid back has to come from somewhere which would be my current account. But if i DON'T use the card or have used it, payed it back and don't owe any repayments do i still owe some sort of subscription fee?

SOmeone clarify this for me as i've always stayed away from credit cards as much as possible because i know how much trouble they can get u in :p

don't get cash on a credit card... it's a ridiculous amount of interest - overdraft or loan will be better.

Hm.. I thought these '0% interest for ** months' cards were for use with cash withdrawls too :s

So basically for my situation (I need about £600 for spending money from the 5th July that i will be to pay back pretty much instantly when i get back on the 13th) you recommend a loan or an overdraft?

    Hmm.. loan or overdraft.

MOS you are a man of wisdom what do you reckon?
