    CPU temp

    Just got a new pc with an AMD sempron 2600 processor...My case has a thermometer on which i assume is reading my cpu temperature.The highest i have seen it go is 34.5 C.Just curious as to high it could go before it was too hot

    As a general rule:

    Anything below 40 = Sweeet (and prob fridge/water cooled) :D

    40ish = Normal

    50ish = A tad hot

    60ish = Very bad, usually a sign yer cooling is on the way out.

    70+ = Very Very bad, and unless your motherboard has a thermal cutout, death for the CPU.

    Semprons are like Celerons, they run a lot cooler because they're not packing as much power as the normal Athlons. I'm running a Barton 3000XP inside a shuttle with a water cooler - it sits idle at about 41 but can get as hot as 52 when stressed fully...

    If your temp is on the case front it may just be the case temperature (usually lower than the temp of the cpu die).

    Open it up and check it out, or download MBM from here to check the cpu temp...

    i reckon mines gonna blow up

    ive got a 2600ghz p4 C overclocked to a 3100ghz (did have it running at 3.4 for a while) and it was super for a long long time but now it gets too hot.

    prone to lock ups when encoding so i just reduce the clock speed to about 2900ghz

    before the temp under load would not go higher than 55 degrees C
    now i have seen temps of 70 degrees c

    it went upto 60 degrees when avg began a test.

    to be honest i think my cpu fan is just clogged full of fluff which is reducing airflow cos the 7 case fans i have usually get clogged aswell.

    anyone kow any decent cpu fans or fan cleaning accessories, i using the stock cpu cooler for a p4 2.6C.

    danke.

    Get a watercooler/fridgecooler.

    And only overclock when you know what you are doing.

    Start by ramping up the processor in small increments (increasing the voltage too by small amounts).

    When the thing starts to freeze or lock up, you're pushing it way too hard.

    i know what im doing, ive been doing this for years. its just suddenly its getting too hot. its either a clogged fan or thermal solution failure. very mjch doubt the processor is on its way out

    if theres a temp read-out on the case its most probably for the ambient temp inside the case, and not the cpu.

    34º is pretty hot for being inside the case.

    mine gets to about 65ºC and starts to slow right down, it doesnt mean its about to die though, just means the room temp is very hot

    nobody can overclock as well as they normally can at the minute, its called summer, everything is alot hotter now and thats effecting everyones temps.

    give it another month or so and we'll all be able to push the hell out of our fsb's again :D

    MBM5 is a great idea, go and get that and post ur temps ;)

    ---------

    dont up the voltages on your board until ur cpu can go no further, overclocking them both at the same time is absolute madness. the reason for upping the voltage is to give the cpu more power, how will u ever find out which one ur taking too far if your doing them both at the same time

    but yea, dont do this unless ur sure u know what your doing ;)
