how much r they quoting you? there only £30 new i have the same problem, but the drive i have salvaged from a mate is from a different console (benq, phillips) but i know some1 who is gonno fool it, and basically fix it. (if i fix his red rings of death) pretty simple to manually chance a drive, would love to know how much they are charging
I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to it than just swapping them like you would on a pc. I think you need to have backups of the original firmware or drive keys or something, and transfer it to the new replacement drive which is done by connecting it to your pc first and running some software. You can fuck the drive up if it's not done properly.
You don't need the original firmware, just the drive key which you can get by connecting to your pc with right equipment and you can spoof the new drive into thinking it's the same model as the old drive by injecting that key into it with software. Each drive has a unique key matching the xbox it's supplied with hence why a straight forward swap is not possible. I've told pike I can do this for him if he wants if he sources me another drive or xbox to use. And it certainly would cost closer to £30 than the £60 quoted on that website. I'd estimate around £45 would be a better price if that would be the case and even that's steap.
who cares what hes charging? i know how to change a drive i know you can do this and that its just that i am rich and cant be arsed so i pay ppl to wipe my arse if its more than £50 i wouldnt bother cos of the price of new xb's it prob just needs a hoover inside i think can u buy the screwdrivers needed to open them up at maplins?
