Computer won't turn on The other week my computer went a bit weird and graphics artifacts started flashing all over the screen. Then it switched off. Last week when I tried to turn it on all the fans started spinning but they sounded quieter than usual and you could tell it hadn't quite started up properly. I tried turning it on and off but it would always do the same thing and the bios would never come up. After turning it on and off multiple times (about 10) it started making the right noises and the bios loaded up. This has been happening ever since, and I always get an "overclock failed, press F2 to load default values" message. I haven't overclocked anything, but this used to happen sometimes anyway. Today I had to turn it on/off literally about 20 times before it whirred into action. I've had issues in the past where it generally smells of burning plastic. Which bit's broken? *The graphics problems haven't happened for a while.
Power Supply or Motherboard. We've had similar power on problems that turned out to be cheap power supplies. see if u can borrow someone elses PSU and plug it in and see if it's any better. that BIOS message doesn't sound good. Are u loading the default values then saving them?
Clear your CMOS - it might be a dodgy bios setting stopping it from running (accidental overclock or something). Theres a watch battery type thing on the motherboard. Turn the pc off and unlug it - then press 'power on' to drain any power out of the powersupply (MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS). Then take the watch battery out and plug it back in - then press the power button and nothing should happen (It wipes the cmos though). Unplug, press 'power on' to drain the power supply again, and finally put the battery back in and turn the system on. Something else to try perhaps. MOS will be able to confirm if this is worth doin?
Im not good with PC's or anything but i can tell from your description that basically you have far to much shit Psy Trance on your PC along with Infected Mushroom and John "00" Flemming sets/pictures. Get rid of that and you will be ok, let me know how it goes
yup, that's what I was going to suggest, deffo worth a try. Also you could try reseating your RAM. Both worth doing before going down the PSU/Motherboard route. These problems can end up being bloody expensive to fix. Sounds like PSU to me mind, cheapo power supplies are a big cause of dead PCs
Infected mushroom and john 00 fleming? ppphhhhh. Conway - I've got a new pc now, but I wouldn't mind trying to get that one sorted cheers Thanks everyone, but I've got a bigger problem now. Set everything up and realised my old graphics card is AGP and I only have PCI/PCI Express slots and can't afford a new one yet. Is there anyway to get the monitor hooked up so I can check the thing actually works?
use an old PCI graphics card? I have a few spares I'm doing sweet fa this afternoon, get nass to drop me a text if you want me to pop over and have a look
