www.computerorbit.co.uk is good. it's in gateshead - cheapest place around for parts - decent advice too. It's cheaper in the shop itself, i can give u directions. After sorting me out with those speakers, i'll even build for ya if u want J.

    alright mate....

    i already have this...

    case (nice case) :)
    52X CD Rom
    CD writter
ge force 1 card (dont need to change cos i dont play games?)
SB Live (will keep for now)
    mother Board (???)
    celeron 388
    128 RAM
    20 gig HDD

but it keep fucking up. might be my OS, cos it never installs properly.

i want to take it to a 1.7gig CPU (intel, AMD, whatever...)
    512mb Ram
    big HDD
new OS (2000 preferably, that works!)
need a network card too, cos im gonna get broadband.

just want it all set up, and working solidly and reliably really!

decent inexpensive processor would be an AMD XP, about £100 (or less) for a 2.1Ghz, then about £50 for new motherboard (can get a more expensive one with on board network card), might have to get a new case but they've got loads of nice cases in there for about £30-£40 quid, memory - dirt cheap. 80Gig HDD was about £70. aye, keep yer soundcard and video card, don't need to upgrade them. Most motherboards you get onboard sound anyway. Probs about £250 for a decent setup. They've got a price list updated everyday on the counter, prices change but they're really good.

Computer Orbit are well good & cheap, I Use em all the time

With your spec, and waht you want, you'd prob be better off with a new machine, then sell the old one for maybe £150 ish. Should work out about the same, but you get a shiny new machine too :)

you'll have to spend bout £300 to upgrade, and all you have left is some old bits.

Spend another £200, and you have a new pc, and an old pc you can sell. It won't make loadsa diff, and might be cheaper doing it either way. Go look for prices on www.computerorbit.co.uk, see what works out best for $$$

base units sell so cheap, you'll not much money for it - always prefer just canabalising what u need from your old base unit, and just buy the upgrade bits...
