    Computer..........HELP

I switched my PC on this morning and internet explorer kept crashing on me (but netscape worked fine). I restarted my computer and a blue screen came up with with something about saving to boot disk. I got worried at this point and ran a Virus scan once it had restarted, the virus scan gave me the all clear so I restarted my computer (again).

    I then got this message:
    "STOP: 0x000007B (0x8176fa30, 0xc000009c, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) inaccessible boot device

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen restart your comp. If this screen appears again follow the steps:

check for virues on your comp. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard disk controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured. Run CHKDSK /F to check hard disk drive corruption and then restart your computer.

Refer to getting started manuel for more info on trouble shooting stop errors."

As it was the 1st time I have had this message I restarted my computer and the message didn't come up again. Explorer now works fine but my computer is running very very slow and my hard disk is making some nasty crunching noises everytime I try and do anything... Any ideas???

doesn't sound good. What o/s u using? if you've got a CD writer, back up any important stuff you've got, documents, music files, downloaded apps, stuff like that - it sounds like the hard disk is failing.

i wouldn't turn it off just yet, it might not reboot mate. backup as much as you can, if poss to a different hard drive. you'll then need to run SCANDISK - the only problem with this, if it finds any corruption - it'll try and fix it - or delete it - which could scrag your pc.

You could do a reformat of your hard disk....that would solve alot of things!

I had a similar error, check in your task ,manager that there are no processes taking up Looooads of processor power, i had a similar problem, and it came down to a dll file that was part of a virus....not a bad one, just a lame one. Also had a similar problem a while ago due to a compatibility issue with Zone Alarm internet vector!

Check for processes, and any that are far to big......shut them down and find out what they are!

ps...ive forgot the name of that dll.....but its not a dll its like****dll.exe, so look out for that.

IF all else fails, reformat...but only as a last resort!

sounds like the hard disk is stuffed. All you can do is back it all up, let scandisk do it's job, it'll highlight any busted sectors - only problem is u might lose that data on those areas = which is possibly why express won't open.

Once you've scandisk'd it - it's probably a flatten/format jobbie if it gets no better.

Yeah - struggles to read the sectors on the disk you see....needs a couple of passes each time with em been screwed :(

Once the backup is complete - run scandisk on the drive u backed them up2.....the files you backed up u see MAYBE corrupt :(

Fingers crossed for ya fella...screwed hard disks r a nightmare!!!!

if it were simply a case of things running slow mate a would agree yeah - the disk will be fine just somethings gone a bit crazy with the installation...

    BUT...

the thing that makes me say its the drive on its way out was..

"...computer is running very very slow and my hard disk is making some nasty crunching noises everytime I try and do anything...."

the noises to me say that the drives bearings r going/gone....

    cud b wrong tho :)

spose....ive had some nasty noises from mine...checked in the task manager and the CPU has been running at 100% which causes extremely slow operation and nasty noises

just saying tho....certainly something worth checking before shelling out 60 odd quid

Simon - what make of drive is it do u know?

If you right click on My Computer, goto Hardware tab, click device manager, look for disk drives....shud tell u in there...

If it isnt detected properly...just whack case off yer pc and have a look on the top of the disk ;)
