    Computer Beeping noise

My computer keeps making beeping noises from the internal speaker every so often, and i have to re-start to make it go away. Any ideas why?

I have recently put a New HDD in, and its only started since then.

The only idea i had was that its overheating?

    ta.....

When's it beeping? During start-up? Or when ur doing stuff in Windows? Or when ur doing nothing, sitting at the other side of the room, and it convinces u that the devil has possessed ur mouse?

    :)

hhmm... bit of an odd one. not heard that b4. check yer documentation that came with the motherboard ( it's the one from Computer orbit, right?) there may be something in there. Could be the BIOS battery being discharged/chuffed. If not, get the model of your motherboard, look on the net for some forums, chances are someone else would have had it at some point.

Could also be a virus - if u aint got anti virus software, search on the net for 'Housecall' from Trend Micro systems, it's free and up to date

nah dont need a big fan (well its always good to av one) u just need to re-seat the heatsink onto the cpu mate.

get sum thermal paste (few quid) and apply it jus bit more than surface area of the main chip...about 2mm thick and evenly spread...then re-seat ya heatsink/fan...

if the heatsink is not correctly seated on the cpu mate or the termal paste isnt right then the heat isnt gettin drawn out of the cpu enough - hence the daft temperatures...

try re-seating the heatsink after puttin sum more paste on 1st - if doesnt work then buy another...may as well try save sum cash 1st.

i have a spare official athlon xp heatsink/fan u can av anyways mate - got it with me processor but dont need it..

i've got a similar prob. if i over clock my processor in the bios - it hangs after 10 mins, needing a reboot. i think its overheating too. don't think the heatsink is correctly fitted.

I have exact same prob with a machine I have here too - so i bought another

I dont think it is a heat problem with this one - cos I bought a new coolermaster heatsink n fan n re-fitted it...still same...

Think it MAY have been hard drive...cos the drive has jus totally gone - so MAYBE it was startin to get bad sectors....had me stumped!!

    *edit*

could also be graphics problem - try searching for stable drivers for your card/os....the latest arent always the greatest..

    *edit again!!*

also try limiting ur AGP ports speed....knock it down from 8x, to 4x or from 4x to 3x...or 2x to 1x etc...

    thats a hot system

mine starts playing up when its near 50 degrees (random hangs and slowing right down like bullet time in the matrix)

and ive got shit loads of fans in mine

2 80mm coolermasters on the cpu double stacked
2 more cooler masters, 1 for a intake and 1 for a exhaust
another coolermaster which i used to replace the PSU fan

had a look inside my dads new machine last week when fucking about with the graphics card and hes got one of them 120mm things on the back of his

    its like a fucken helicopter

Sounds like a Gerforce FX 5900 / 5950.. they have rediculous cooling.. a huge fan and heatsink on either side.

As for a recommended cooling soloution -

If you want your machine to be pretty much silent then go for an Arctic Cooling Copper Silent TC Rev 2
You can get one from orbit for bout 15 - 20 quid.

Other than that I always stick with either Akasa or other major cooling companies...
