EASTER SUNDAY 12TH APRIL 2009 @ THE CUSTARD FACTORY MARQUEE & SURROUNDING AREAS, GIBB ST, DIGBETH, BIRMINGHAM Eclectricity are proud to welcome Cocoon, Sven Vath's Frankfurt techno brand back to Birmingham for the first party of 2009! This time we welcome back the head honcho SVEN VATH for an extremely rare UK performance. Sven is a true A list DJ…. Yet he is one of the very few acts that have managed to gather a massive following without ever selling out and staying true to his roots….. and that is supplying the most upfront and forward thinking underground electronic music to the masses. His last appearance in Birmingham drew a massive crowd from all over the country with Sven playing for 3 hours to over 2,000 techno lovers not to mention a inpromptu set at the after party which people still talk about to this day….. Joining Sven is quite possibly one of the most accomplished DJ’s and hottest producers of recent times DUBFIRE!!! Dubfire has seen it all having been one of the members of the grammy award winning and chart topping DEEP DISH. In the past few years he departed from Deep Dish to follow his calling to the underground and since then has been accepted as one of the most influential players in minimal and techno with a string of hot productions and remixes. With these two party animals in the house, anything is possible and the completely unique marquee setting in the centre of the idyllic Custard Factory complex is the scene….. What better way to celebrate the first bank holiday of 2009?! Looking forward to some harder sounding stuff like. Sven Vath is the man to deliver. This should be sweet like.
Vath is hit and miss for me like. At the last Cocoon UK night at Warehouse project he was quality, knocking out 3 hrs of pounding techno as he did at Cocoon Frankfurt when we saw him there as well. Other times ive seen him - timewarp last year, cocoon @ amnesia a few times when he has been shocking, music and mixing wise, totally all over the place. Hes totally inconsistent in terms of the clip he is in when playing as well as musically. Dubfire is the same these days, im a fan of some of his techno productions though most of the DJ sets i have heard have been hit and miss too, and you often get a tough as fuck techno track mixed into some melodic prog, with little direction or consistency. That said, i also saw him in ibiza last year when he was wicked so who knows really... As long as the BBQ is decent though ill be fucking sound
Been booked up for this for ages....seems like its creeping up now Really looking forward to it. Sounds like its gonna be a mini festival as I've read they are shutting down Gibb street for it. Roll on Easter
Not long for this now Someone has posted this on the Matt Hardwick board about it... ''Yeah, they've got it all open so they'll be draining the pool and having a marquee over it, that's where Sven and co are. The main Medicine Bar club is where Woolford and co are, they're having The Gallery open, The Kitchen and also Rootys across the way will have DJs in it too.'' Sounds crazy but good, marquee over a pool???
