Circus presents: BBC Radio 1’s 500th Essential Mix Circus presents: BBC Radio 1’s 500th Essential Mix DJ Liverpool – Friday 23rd April It probably doesn’t really get any better, any bigger and any more immense than this: Liverpool’s leading house night, Circus, one of the most respected and revered sessions in the land, has been asked by BBC Radio 1 to present the 500th DJ Essential Mix. BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong will host a live broadcast at this event, 1am – 5am, with the monumental 500th DJ to grace the Essential Mix desks. Voted by an expert industry panel the chosen DJ will the revealed on the night in front of a live audience. Along with dance music luminary Pete Tong, Circus resident and promoter Yousef will be present alongside two huge guests: globe-trotting legend Sasha and Richie Hawtin, who makes his mouth-watering debut at The Masque. This is one of Circus’ most inspired lineups and represents just how far the club has evolved; working together with BBC Radio 1 for the world-famous Essential Mix is a huge honour for all involved at the club. Residents Lewis Boardman and Scott Lewis also star, along with the very welcome return of Alex Wolfenden for a special Mambo Set in Ink. Yousef says that, “After being a avid follower of the world famous Essential Mix since day one and after doing 3 studio mixes and even two live hosts myself, now being asked to house the celebration of the 500th DJ to feature on the Essential Mix is literally the best pat on the back we could of ever wished for at Circus. After 7 years of Circus relentlessly growing and developing and aiming high, it’s good to know that our independent efforts are recognised enough by our peers to be trusted with such and immense accolade. We've been asked by Radio 1 to deliver a line up suited to the 4 hour Live broadcast 500th Essential Mix DJ, in true Circus style, we are doing our up most to go in at a jaw dropping level... we are keeping it all in the smaller venue we use, our original home - The Masque. The loyal Circus followers will literally have not seen anything like what will be happening on April 23rd in Liverpool, ever!” Circus presents: BBC Radio 1’s 500th Essential mix DJ Friday 23rd April @ Barfly, 90 Seel Street, Liverpool, L1 4BH 500th BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix DJ Guest Announced Live On The Night Theatre Richie Hawtin – live broadcast Pete Tong – live broadcast Yousef The Loft Sasha – live broadcast 500th Essential Mix DJ – live broadcast Lewis Boardman Ink Alex Wolfenden – Mambo Set Scott Lewis 10pm – 5am £18 advance / £20 other Info – 0151 706 8045 www.circusclub.co.uk Tickets: www.chibuku.com/shop www.skiddle.com TicketWeb: 08444 771 000 Ticketline: 0161 832 1111 3Beat: 0151 353 7027
would say from my time at uni living there, circus gets alot less bellends than digital most nights. surprised this isn't at nation.
there is definitely a lot less ''bell-ends'' or as they call em over Liverpool way ''lid's'' at Circus than digital. And it's not at Nation due to the fact Masque has had a hell of a lot spent on it recently and Rich (promoter alongside Yos) has put loads of effort into the whole shebang to give it a place to call home, and actually now is Circus' 'home' ....and better than Nation, they had Digweed, Villalobos, GWilson all on last weekend and it went down a storm look at the line-ups, they are always massive and generally packed to the rafters, get yourselves along, will be epic, and the flange is mint
The Masque is awesome - a couple of thousand people all going off to Villalobos last month, in the sweltering heat, on those tiers was an immense few hours.
Haha were you there?! To be fair that only happened (it seemed) in the last hour of his three hour set. After then its like he gave up bothering. Mind you, i might have been so trashed i could have listened to 2 hours of skipping needles, trainwrecks and bad mixes, and still thought it was the most amazing thing i'd ever heard in my life.
Agreed. I was pretty much amazed at how much better the crowd was here, than at your typical night in Newcastle (At Digital). A place like Liverpool carries a load of presumptions about how the clubbers are going to be, but this completely blew those out the water.
