Swedish citizen, Smith spent the late 80’s years in Germany soaking up the early house and techno sound of Sven Vath, and has been championing his funky, tripped out mix of house and soulful techno for more than a decade, playing across Asia, North & South America, and Europe, plus regular slots at the worlds biggest festivals. His productions as duo Smith & Selway read straight out of the techno textbook, dropping hard-edged, frantically paced records for over a decade now, with none of their discography possible of being described as shy and retiring. Christian’s music has been released on a variety of top labels like Renaissance; Adam Beyer's Drumcode, Josh Wink’s Ovum, Carl Cox’s Intec, John Digweed's Bedrock, and his very own Tronic, proving his flexibility in the studio. Having recently re launched his mighty label, and his releases ensuring his bookings continue to soar, the Swedish DJ/producer brings the Tronic treatment to Shindig this Saturday. CHRISTIAN SMITH: THE TRONIC MAN COMES TO SHINDIG As house and techno continue their unabashed love affair with one another, Shindig presents one of the most compelling, hand raising and foot stamping Dj’s this Saturday - Christian Smith. Swedish citizen, Smith spent the late 80’s years in Germany soaking up the early house and techno sound of Sven Vath, and has been championing his funky, tripped out mix of house and soulful techno for more than a decade, playing across Asia, North & South America, and Europe, plus regular slots at the worlds biggest festivals. It was the early eighties and the music at the time was early electro, soul, funk and late disco music. Groups like The SOS Band, Newcleus, funk bands like Cameo and tracks like Fade To Grey by Visage had a huge influence on Christian. Although his older brother and sister would bring home the dj mix tapes from the big clubs, with music from the pre house days. This is what Christian turned on to. By the time Christian had turned fourteen, he looked old enough to get into the clubs himself and became, by his own admission, “a manic train spotter.” Frequenting Sven Vaths Dorian Grey residency, this club had a big effect on Christian. He went to the clubs for the music and to check out the DJ’s. If Dorian Grey was Smiths introduction to the realms of electronic music, then it would be his experiences in another of dance music’s capital cities that would help mould and solidify Christians deeply entrenched love for club music.
