Standards are there to be broken...

Fair enough, the pioneer unit is well put together, the scratching and general layout of it is pretty cool, but feature wise the denon kicks the absolute shit out of it...

MP3 playback? oh yeah, the pioneer doesn't do that.
    user-upgradeable firmware? nope.
Four Hotstarts and 2 built in samplers? nope again.
Pitch range higher than +/-16%? you get the picture.

And the alpha tracking allows you to scratch, loop, and play with the track using the same effects (dump, reverse etc) as the primary track.

who gives a fuck about +1000000% pitch range

is that so you can mix sample some hot jungle loopz into your tight ass techno set :spangled:

ona plus the cdj1000 is nice kit like... one day well be able to just look at a cd deck and it will mix a tiesto bangin set

but the alpha track system is crap, its for "if all else fails" more than owt else

the denon has more features than the pioneer, but the reason the pioneer is industry standard is cos its easy to use, not cos it makes coffee and does the dishes

I've had both a denon dns-5000 and cdj100mk2 and I can tell you that all the stuff the dednon does extra, it doesn't do all that well anyways.

MP3 playback- poorly and with little control over it- especially vbr mp3 files. alpha track can't be used with mp3 cos the denon's memory can't cope with it

User upgradable firmware- the newest update (ages ago now) filled the DNS5000 memory so that no future updates will be issued as there's no room, there may be small tweaks but since they're working on a new deck, i doubt it.

4 hotstarts- 1 more than pio but the buttons are horrible and rubbery and nowhere near as accurate, again, same with the sampler, hard to use cos the buttons are poor.

pitch range higher that 16%? the pioneer does +/- 100% but also has better pitch increments- at 10% the increments are 0.05 whilst on denon they're 0.1 which is hard work to hold long mixes in- makes you work harder than you need to!)

Just my opinions of course but I def wouldn't get another denon unless the dns-5500 is really, really good
