I have had mine for 3 months ish now.

In an ideal world if of liked to of go MK2's cos they are obviously more established but the deal for them fell thru cos there not made anymore, in the end settled for MK3's and havent looked back really.

Its personal preference really to be honest cos i have seen them slated to fuck and then other people prefer them - i havent had any problems at all to be honest and am more than happy in my investment.

Having bougth an EFX 500 recently as well thats setup complete ;)

    :D

arent they just the same, but they now play mp3's????

if this is so,what if all you had was mp3,turn up somewhere, and they have the mk2's,then ya fucked

I havent played one mp3 yet i dont think ?

It only crossed me mind the other day they actually play them, wouldnt the sound quality be shit tho if you did play them for the amount you could get onto a CD?

sound quality would be the same as if you downloaded m3s then changed them to normal cd audio

I don't believe you could tell the difference between a well encoded mp3 and CD Audio, you would need: a) very well trained ears, b) very high quality monitoring equipment in a room with good accoustics c) program material that was very 'difficult' to encode and d)a way of comparing side by side.

I'm not saying there is NO difference and I'm not saying there are not a lot of bad quality mp3s out there. But I'm sick of hearing DJs make sweeping statements like "I never use mp3s, they sound shit."

Most radio stations use compressed file formats, often mp2, you rarely hear people complaining about the poor quality of radio, although if people did complain they would have good reason to because of the dynamic compression used on the audio to make the station sound as loud as possible and the frequency limitations involved in FM Radio (nothing over 15kHz). In many broadcast audio chains the signal is encoded and decoded several times before you hear it.

Digital radio uses mp2 encoding, and most of the stations broadcast on DAB run at 128kbps. MP2 generally sounds worse than MP3 meaning that most DAB stations sound about the same as a 96k MP3. But DAB was originally marketed as having "CD Quality sound". You don't hear of a lot of people complaining about the quality of DAB radio.

My point is that mp3 doesn't sound crap, infact it sounds very good if implemented properly.

When I have time (which could be ages yet) I will make a CD (or a wav/aiff file) which has samples of directly extracted CD Audio and also Audio which has been converted to mp3 and then back again. I will mix up the order of the tracks and see who can tell the difference between the encoded track and the original track and then I will post the answers. I think that would be an interesting experiment for the "mp3s sound shit crowd".

But remember I never claim there is NO difference, just that most people can't tell the difference under normal circumstances.

I have a mk2 and mk3, would have just bought a another mk2 if they were still out but they stopped making them, I dont use the mp3 function therefor can't see any difference between the mk2 and mk3 lol
