    cd writer nightmares

    right...

ive got a artec cdrw201040.. had it for a while, always done the job quite adequately.

i recently bought a stack of 100 verbatim cdr's (which were supposed to be 'good' in comparison to the no-brand cheap shit i usually get) they are supposed to be compatible up to 45x cd writers... over double what my writer is capable of.

however... they just wont write at anything more than 8 speed... i go any faster and im getting 'medium speed errors' every single time.

i looked into it, and the common solution appeared to be a firmware update for the writer. simple enough, i figure.

so i update to the newst firmware, and short of changing the name of my writer, it's made no god damn difference at all.

anyone got any ideas? the thought of burning 100 cdr's at 8speed is not my idea of fun.

    :(

i noticed that the discs were very 'transparent looking' something the case claims is a good thing... :spangled:

i also noticed that my dreamcast wasnt reading the disc at all. strange, normally when it's fucked at least it has a bit whirr on.

i put the disc back in my pc, and sure enough, all files were there.

anyway, i'll get to the point...

i stuck one of mycd labels on the disc, whacked it back in the dc and sure enough... it works. :D

shame i burned two copies eh

fucking smart arse disc manufacturers making ya fuckin discs see-through

anyway, im still having the cd speed issue tho... so help would be appriciated... :p
