    Cars???

Am thinking of buying a 1989 1.6l Toyota MR2 MK1 (T Bar), But I want to try and do it up till its as new. Possibly with a body kit and i might tune the engine depending on if i can be arsed.

So my question is has anyone ever done this before (not nesseseraly on a MR2)? How much roughly does it cost? And how hard is it?

If its too much like hard work I might sack it off and just pay extra for one someone has already done up.

    So any advice kids?

I've been trying to do this for 4 years now lol. for my FTO its gonna cost £1400 for a good respray, just over £1000 for a full replica veilside kit + £600. I was lucky enough to get it with a leather interior so that saved about £500. It depends how far you want to go with it, But if u want it as new I'd say its gonna cost quite abit and the parts u need might bea bit hard to come by seeing as its a mk1. Best bet would be to see if you can find anywhere that sells the parts your gonna need, and body kits etc, then you'l have a better idea of how much its going to cost you.
Cars deffinatley make your pockets less heavy

4 Years?? Dunno if i'm that patient. I think i'm gonna have about £2k to spend. I've been looking for them and they seem about £600 for one in alright knick. And here's the body kit i want. So put that together with a respray that £5k already. And thats without all the extra costs :(

Its deffinatley a nice kit, the thing is with body kits is that the place you would be getting to fit it and respray the car normally want to see the kit first before they give you a price as different kits take more work to fit. I know the 4 years seems a long time but to be honest something always comes up when I've had the cash to get some of the work done so it normally gets spent on other things and I have to save up again, but If you made a few sacrifices It would'nt take you that long. You could get the bodykit and the respray done within 2 weeks, then you could just look at getting the other bits done in time. like suspension and engine tuning.

Take it to a garage? I'll be doing it all myself!! Will take it to get sprayed but i want to do the rest myself. Saying that though how much do places charge to fit the kit for you?

If i could blag the car as a x-mas present then spend the 2k i have on that kit and lights. Could get some cheaper wheels then save up for the central exhaust. Might have it odne by easter. Just in time for the nice weather starting :D

Hmmmmmmmm to be honest fitting a kit isnt to easy depending on the kit. Like my side skirts are basically supra side skirts but to make them look nicer there blended into the bodywork so theres no lines, so theres going to be a bit bodywork entailed in the job. The place that normally does the respray normally would give you a good price for fitting it and respraying it all included and it takes a lot of the hassle out of it. I know vine place in spennymoor had there new brochure out last month and they have in there that if you buy a full body kit from them they will fit it and respray the lot for £1500 which is'nt bad at all. That might just be for painting the kit though so You might be looking at 2k all in all. Generally though they dont charge that much to fit it if your getting all the work done at the same place and you know its going to get done properly.

not 1 to be a spoil sport but mr2's are big twats to rebuild or mod etc....ask earl

he got a damaged 1 in a while ago and a wheel arch was so hard to come by and so expensive that he had to use a ford escort one and make it fit!

Looked mint when he finished it though

If anyone wants paint work or repairs done feel free to ask earl too, he's mint and has done stuff for lots of magazine featured cars.....

Dont get me wrong, theres no such thing as a £50 paint job, but he is very reasonably priced for the professional job that you get done.....

Just PM me or him and we'll give you some details

Aye i've been looking on the net for parts and they are quite hard to come by. Although the MR2 MK1 website is quite handy.

And I could be calling on you for some help spraying it like. Wont be this side of x-mas though unless I win the lottery or something :(

When you are talking about that kind of money though, why not just get a better car to start with?

Or is it just the personal touch?

For eg. I have changed the lights, gear knob and interior on my corsa, but thats just little things, that dont cost much, if I had the money you are talking I would get a better newer swisher car to start, then it needs little or nowt done to it.

TBH if I had loaaaaaaaaaads I would get a smart car pimped to fuck, but get like, a pimped lincon navigator or even a tour bus done out. Mebbies not wacky body kits, just a fish tank and a bowling alley and a projection TV blah blah blah
