    can any1 help please?

i have just got a new pair of wharfedale speakers with built in amps for my bday.
the reason i needed these was because the amp i have been using before this couldnt seem to take the power when my turntables were going through the PHONO path - so i had the toggle switch set to lines on my mixer.

I know this is wrong but the sound quality through th hi-fi was fine, although when recording into my PC the signal was low and there was no bass - so i had to do a lot of mastering and EQ-ing when a mix was recorded into sound forge.

This is my set up to give u a better idea...

Both Turntables into phono jacks in my mixer ---->
Master Out of my mixer into LINE IN on my Kaoss Pad --->
LINE OUT of Kaoss Pad (via split phono jacks) into left and right speakers ---->

Rec out on mixer to Line in on my PC to record.

My problem is that I am now getting a very distorted, peaking signal thorugh to my PC when i record!
I have got a decent soundcard, and ive tried turning the LINE IN volume down on my PC but that makes fook all difference for some reason.

can anyone help and know what im doing wrong? is it the way ifs connected up?

SOrry to make this such an essay!

are you sure you have it in the line in, and not Mic on your computer?
try changing it around, and playing with the levels on youe windows sound controls.

it looks like it should be fine from your description.

some mixers can be pre-amped which COULD be causing the distortion. what mixer is it?

otherwise like Revel said - all's well. could it be to do with the gain level on the channels or the level of the master out?

ive had a fiddle around and it turns out my gains on both channels were pushing the level too high.... and i also have to be very careful with the channel faders i cant push them all the way to the top (theres like a marker on the channels to show appropriate volume anyway).

The master volume doesnt affect the recording volume either... ive found i just need to watch the channel levels when mixing.

ive stuck stickers on the channels that act like wedges..so i cant push the volume above this!
