    Caldwell back in TOON

It was revealed on Tuesday afternoon that following their relegation from the Premiership, Leeds United had released on-loan defender Steve Caldwell following a request from Newcastle.

The Chronicle ran the story in their later editions, confirming that the player was en route back to Tyneside and will be part of the United squad that flies out for the Marseille game on Wednesday.

Caldwell last appeared for Newcastle as a half time sub in the 0-5 defeat at Chelsea last November and has played for us in the UEFA Cup this season, coming off the bench for the closing stages of the victory in Breda.

However there seems little chance of fellow loanee Lomana LuaLua making a similar return, given that Pompey paid a fee for his services.

I think he could be a hell of a player. It's a shame he's going, but he needs first team football tbf!! Very vocal, good in the air, and not a bad reader of the game. Look's like he will be playing the last couple of games with Andy O suspended!!
