Is there any reason why Im getting failed buffer errors with nero? It seems to happen when I use my Burner more than once in 15 minutes and I dont want to waste any more precious DVD-Rs

i've always used plextor drives or liteon drives and never had any problems burning discs. if you make sure everything is setup correctly then burning discs shouldn't pose a problem. unless the drive is cattle trucked there's no reason to swap drives.

Loads of drives out there require firmware updates to recognise new types of media from all the different manufacturers these days and you will find this will probably be the root cause of failed disc writes.

Also, if you're copying from one drive to another, never have them connected to the same cable inside. always try and separate the two drives onto two separate channels - this will help loads. make sure DMA access mode is enabled in your bios and windows for both drives as this can also cause failures the way the hardware shifts data about across the different buses,

I've used nero for years - started with v5, now on v6, but moved to v7 and rolled back since it replaced my mp3 encoder with a buggy version causing discs to have little jumps in music tracks.
This is probably fixed now i would of thought since it was a while ago but like i say.... look in your device manager for the drive model number then google it with the word firmware in the search string. Try that first before forking out money on a new drive.

1 important thing - IDE can be a problem. older 33/66 IDE only have 40 cables pin'd out - some newer drivers work better on the full 80 pin ATA100 cables (they look exactly the same, but more wires! )
