    broken laptop help

the power cable port on my laptop is a wee bit fucked (its the actual power cable, thats fine its the port where u plug it into the laptop)

i have had it to the shop near mine to see if it could be fixed, price etc, but the way the bloke handled it was really strange, he didnt contact me for over a month and i had to ring him a few time until eventually he told me the motherboard was fucked and a new one would be £250+ thus its not worth gettin done

i cant help but think he is just fobbing me off as he is still trying to charge me £20 for looking at it, seems like he could have just done fuck all, then gave me a bit of techy jargon that i dont understand.

does anyone know if this sounds correct?

    this happened to anyone before?

if the socket where the power adaptor plugs is snapped - it's probably snapped the PCB inside - which will mean a new motherboard.

    what make is it?

he's totally right to be honest - parts aren't really like desktop machines where bits are easily interchangable - you'll have to get the original motherboard from the makers then it'll be a real chore to swap out, possibly involving soldering. Thats why he's said it's not worth fixing it - and £20 for him to look at it is nothing. he's done his job - a company i use charge £35 to inspect laptops - but this is refunded if i get the work done with them
