    Broadband providers

I dunno where to put this but feel free to remove mods !

I'm just after a few different opinions on broadband. Mother has finally got her bum in gear and is thinking about the BT Yahoo package...I know a canny bit about broadband but from others I hear about dodgy connections and other little niggles.

Can you please advise a fast strong provider thank you please ! :)

I sort of see what you are saying. Although its the same everywhere with companies being sold or merging or being bought for a penny, you just aint got a clue who to ring. Take O2 for example, they have sold to Vodafone, although all the literature my mam receives is O2, her network operator according to her phone is O2 and now O2 are making and selling mobiles.

WTF is going on? pure confusion thats what !

bit of advice tho if u decide to go with bt order it on line cos u get ur modem free where as if u place ur order over the fone it'll cost ya £40....

c how kind bt are to their sales staff!!

& i am so jealous....

but we only need 25 more ppl to register their interest & then for bt to confirm that these are still correct & then we'll hopefully get broadband & when we do i can get it cheap!!!

Blueyonder all the way. and THATS from a BT engineer who went to Lazman's house to install BT ADSL. Even he said it was much more reliable. Why rely on grotty old telephone lines that give reduced signal quality when u can get cable.

    soz ruth :D

it's all down to registering phone numbers...we're kinda lucky that all the old dears in the village are dying off so younger folkes are moving in & hey presto we're nearly there!!!! :)

All the old dears...dying off...sounds just like Alnwick...soon your council will realise that the town is getting younger and they need to update it and add facilities for the younger generation...just like Alnwick....soon...not now....but soon

Don't mean to diss your company but....

It usually is bt's fault when adsl goes down (I can tell this because I can't even get to any services hosted by my isp so the fault is between my house and my exchange). Also when iv'e used bt adsl the service quality was poor (the techs don't know what they are talking about), it goes offline usually once a day and it's over priced.

(I used bt about 2 years ago so it could be better now)

My advice would be to go to www.ispreview.co.uk if you want to pick an isp.

Oh and don't get usb/pci modem, buy a adsl router, they cost a little more but they make your pc a whole load more secure.

for good prices on routers look at www.dslsource.co.uk, they are really helpful and will usually talk you through setup if you get stuck (I recommend the speed touch 510 @ £45.00).

    Sorry Ruth :angel2: :)

tis ok rob...i know we are a pile of shite bu they i get apid to sell this stuff.....we're always advised that the customer should speak to the company they have the broadband thru & then they should contact bt.....they just tell them to ring us tho & we have to tell them to ring the company cos we can't deal with it...it's a catch 22 situation but u can diss bt all u like...they ain't doing me any favours atm!!! :D :king:
