    Broadband problems???? help

my girlfriend wants to get broadband on her new laptop, we were looking at AOL, Wannadoo and BT, we have done a checker on all three and they say its unavailable,

"Our Records indicate that you have a product or service supplied to this line that is currently incompatible with broadband. You will need to have the product or service ceased before broadband could be provided. If you place an order before the incompatible product or service has been ceased then the order will be rejected."

her house in using a BT landline and they have sky...is this causing the problem? any ideas??

we did a check for telewest broadband and found that she could get this, telewest is a cable line yes?? so how can she get a cable network broadband, but not bt line (AOL, BT, Wannadoo) broadband???

    all help appreciated cheers

haha proper kiddy fiddler look that like

"come along little children"

As for broadband....telewest cable is a different technology to BT/Wanadoo/AOL (ADSL) - I would get cable personally because it has its own fiber lines as opposed to shared phone lines with ADSL which ends up suffering from signal attenuation which is proprotional to your distance from the telephone exchange ie the further away you are the weaker the signal and the lower the speed.

Cable does not suffer from this limitation.

Youve posted a wonderful explanation about theoretical problems with adsl ....... but it means naff all to most people.

Ive had adsl, telewest cable, ntl cable, then 2 adsl providers and would still take adsl over cable. I cant stand the crappy upload speeds on cable that choke any P2P or whatever (or they did).

1mb ukonline broadband for 9.99 does it all for me :)

    I know hence the

You get equally shit upload speeds on ADSL really....for example mine is 2.2mb down and 256k up!
