    Broadban Providors

Who's everyone using at the moment?

Time to start thinking about bb for our student house next year - 6 of us, moderately heavy users.

Narrowed it down to F2S's 8mb 50gb limit, or Telewest 10mb.

Does anyone have any experience of these, and actual speeds obtained?

Does Telewest still require you to pay phone line rental with it?

Our current router includes a DSL modem, will it work with Telewest?

Any other suggestions? Decent internet is more important to us than saving a few quid, but cheaper options appreciated! If any of them do contracts for less than a year, then thats a bonus too.

    Thanks all :D

    That's what I meant :(

Telewest's actually pretty competetive if you dont have to have a landline with it

Don't know anyone on ADSL getting the speeds they should either.

    Telewest is the boy.
Pull all the stops out.. buy a new router.. get telewest.

No u/d limits and as you get free newsgroup access you can achieve 1.25mps down :)

    4.2gb in like 45mins..

    Beats everything out there..

Exactly :( F2S will be 35 a month with line rental anyway - and a 50gb limit, which we're normally pretty close to.

Would be a shame to ditch the router - after all the shit we had with crappy Netgear, the Linksys is a dream

No way to plug telewest into a LAN port on the router and use it?

just because you live close to the exchange doesn't mean your phone line is close to it....your tel line could loop in the opposite direction to the exchange meaning your tell line is really far away

    from your house??

theres a chance thats not your line...bt's lines can run in weird ways...i know this cos i worked for them selling broadband...

we had situations where people could see their tel exchange but the line was too long to take broadband :)

I only get 1.1 on talk talk. Can't really complain when I'm getting it free and my phone bills are cheaper than when I was bt. It does the job for me :D
