Branded are pleased to announce their new hard resident non other than Neal Thomas ahead of his residency Debut branded catches up wit the man himself Down in deepest darkest Liverpool a city well known for its musical heritage a new star is born. building on the foundations of an eclectic musical past one guy is making waves across hard dance NEAL THOMAS! Hi Neal and Congratulations on your new residency at Branded, the first hard dance resident! Cheers! So Neal how's thing and what you been up to? I’m really good cheers, been keeping busy with gigs, productions and ventures outside the scene. We've seen you move onto production and have had some massive tracks such as C64 gaining huge support, what's on the horizon for NT the producer? Well I’ve been in the studio quite a bit lately, and have got some really strong tracks made. I’ve got my EP coming out on Traffic Records on CD in February and 2 more of my tracks are being featured on Traffic’s ‘Music Journal’ in March. Both of these CDs will be available in places like HMV. Apart from that keep a look out for a collaboration with Tidy’s Guyver. Who would you say have been your main influences in DJing and of course Productions? I would have to say when I started DJing it was the likes of Yoji & Eddie before he was big. As my productions have started later in my career, I have been influenced by various tracks I play in my style. So what was your first response when you found out the legend that is YOJI was hammering your track? Obviously I was made up, as I said Yoji used to be a bit of a hero of mine back in about 2001. We now speak quite regularly via emails, and I always make sure he gets my new productions 1st, as he has started to play a similar style to me now. How was it you got started, I mean do you remember the very moment you though I'm going to be a DJ? Well I was in college and started going to Garlands every week. I loved it in there, but never really thought “I want to DJ” until a friend of mine convinced me to get a pair of decks instead of buying some clothes haha. I started to really get into it and it was my dream then to play at Garlands. 2 years later I was resident there. you've played some amazing gigs: Goodgreef, Frantic, GCSSS and of course IBIZA! As a DJ how do you deal with the enormity of and event like that? To be honest, I never get phased by a gig, I think this is due to the fact I was playing to about 1,000 people every week at Garlands when I was 18. I love massive crowds just as much as I love small intimate gigs. At GCSSS the tent was around the 6,000 people mark, an that’s the 1st time ive ever gone “WOW!” We've seen you knockin in and around the Hard Dance scene for while now, what's your view on the new wave of talent and is there anyone knockin around that catches your eye? Yea there are a few great acts coming through, definitely what the scene needs. The two that spring to mind instantly are Jordan Suckley and The Technicians. Jord has got great talent and the drive to go all the way. The Technicians play stuff which is a lot like my style, so its great to have someone else to really push the sound forward. 2008 has seen some great Gigs for you what have been your most memorable moments this year? That’s a hard one! Id probably have to say The Hard Dance Awards in Feb, the massive Kiddstock, or Goodgreef’s Halloween special the Saturday just gone. Ibiza is always special for me too, every year I play it just gets better and better! So what delightful surprises has 2009 for you? Ive got a few bits planned for 09, plenty more productions as I am really pushing that now, i cant really give much away at the moment but watch this space! What sort of thing does Neal Thomas do to Chill and wind down when you're not out and about pounding techy beats out? I love going to watch Liverpool play, week in, week out. I also love goin the gym, although I have been slacking a bit lately! Apart from that, I own a printing company, so that takes a lot of my time up making sure that its running fine. As we know your a massive Liverpool fan! your boys gunna do it this year you recon? Of course they are! I do say this every season though haha! My confidence has been dented a little with the defeat to Spurs, but I still think we can do it! You start your residency this Friday with the Branded boys what's your thoughts on this and what are they like? Im really happy to be starting a residency here, Branded is a great up and coming night so I jumped at the chance to be part of it and help it progress. I have known Andi for many years and I know he will give 100% along with the rest of the Branded team. thanks for you time matey and we'll see you friday for your NEW Residency Debut at Branded CIAO! www.djnealthomas.com www.goodgreef.net www.myspace.com/djnealthomas www.dontstayin.com/groups/neal-thomas
