Boy Stabbed to Death on Birthday Boy stabbed to death on birthday Police have thanked local people for coming forward A murder investigation has begun after a teenage boy was stabbed to death on his 16th birthday. The boy died in hospital from his injuries after the incident in East Avenue, South Shields, on Friday night. A 43-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man have been arrested and are being questioned by police. A youth, aged 15, has been released on bail. Northumbria Police have thanked several members of the local community who came forward with information. Ch Supt Kevin Lambert said: "This is clearly a very tragic incident and our thoughts today are with the family and friends of the young man involved. "It does bring home to us the dangers of carrying knives and using knives. "The local community have clearly been shocked by this incident and I would like to thank them for coming forward and helping with our inquiries." update Man remanded over stabbing murder A teenager has been remanded in custody charged with murdering a boy who was stabbed to death on his 16th birthday. Glen Corner, of Wakefield Avenue in South Shields, died in hospital from his injuries after being attacked in East Avenue on Friday night. Lee Firman, 18, of Thornholme Avenue in the town, was remanded by South Tyneside Magistrates until 6 September. No plea to the charge was entered or application for bail made. Mr Firman will appear at Newcastle Crown Court. A 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old woman were also arrested and have been released on bail.
