Boot Failure... Got the following error msg "ntldr is missing... press any key to restart" Have googled it and downloaded some small app to try fix it but to no avail. Secondly tried XP recovery console.... BUT I have 2 HDs in my system and the one with XP is nolonger detected so the recovery console is useless... Obviously I'm thinking my hard drive has packed in, is it possible to recover anything from it? (luckily I backed up most stuff to my other HD a week ago but theres a few bit & bobs would like to keep )
heheheh the CLASSIC support question - Make sure there's no floppy in the drive OR USB drive plugged in - some BIOS's will try boot to them and if it finds a NTFS file system it'll look for the NT loader. Also, lots of questions to ask. you#ll have to do more investigating - find out WHY it doesn't regonise both drives, disconnect them individually, find out which one it dodgy, then the working one, get into the recovery console and run the fixmbr command
It did detect both drives previously and booted fine! The 2nd drive is just full of media files no OS or programs installed whatsoever. Everything was on the other one! Now it cant boot and when I boot from XP cd to use the reovery console or repair function it only shows up the media drive which is working fine and has no need to be fixed. I cant repair the C: drive because its not detected full stop so its knacked, dead, kaputt aint it? And im guessing i cant retrieve anything from it...
with just the original plugged in, can u hear it spin up? IF it's saying "cannot find ntldr" that means it's recognising the NTFS file system on the drive it's just the MBR thats chuffed, otherwise it'd say something like "NO DISK FOUND"
