Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson has been sacked by the club after their poor start to the Premiership season.
Two points from four games have left the Magpies 16th in the league.

A statement from the club explained that the directors had informed the 71-year-old Robson that he was to be replaced as team manager.

The club have yet to announce a replacement for Robson, who has been at St James' Park since taking over from Ruud Gullit in 1999.

The statement continued: "The directors wish to thank for the way in which Sir Bobby has worked tirelessly over the past five years to try to bring success to the club.

The club agreed early in 2003 to extend Sir Bobby's contract by one further season.

"However after careful consideration the club decided it was in the best interest of all concerned to revisit that decision.

"The club will no doubt continue to benefit from the knowledge and experience he has given during his time here."

Despite taking the club into the Uefa Cup and Champions League, Newcastle failed to win any silverware during his time in charge.

    -----------

    Wrong move. :(

personally i dont care, get sumone in early this season to get the team sorted and playing well for next season, theres no point keeping him till the end only to get a new manager who has a couple of months before the next season, bobby has lost it :)

I agree the blokes a legend and has done a superb job in turning the club around since taking over from Guillet(sp?) but he lost the respect of his players and clearly under his management they wernt delivering the goods on the pitch. It was in the best interests of the club that he went because we wernt getting any better in fact we were getting worse. If anyone thinks they should of kept him then they need there head read. :D

Once Fat Fred announced this season was gonna be his last, it was always gonna be hard for him. Even if he was thinkin that he shouldnt have announced it until right before the final home game.

I think it's a really good move by the club..

Good man, he's done well for us, etc, etc.. but his time has come.

exactly, i couldn't see us getting anywhere this season with him tbh, so what would keeping him have done for the club, atleast now if we get someone in early, he has this season to sort things out before the next one, i think thats better than just sacking bobby at the end of the season because we are in a shit table position and giving sumone else a few pre season matches to work wonders :)

Thing is whover comes in wont be able to buy anyone till January cos of the deadline.

I think the bizarre sale of Solano was the beginning of the end.

It appears to me that anybody who leaves Shearer on the bench gets sacked..... shifty.....

Too many egos in that dressing room. If they can't respect Bobby how the hell does anybody else stand a chance? Houllier wrong choice... it will be akin to the Dalglish and Gullet appointments... tiem needs to eb taken but let's be honest Shearer runs that football club. :lecture:

Bobby is a England legend, his treatment at NUFC has been disgraceful.

The scum have truly lived up to their name in this case.

ANYONE who wants anything to do with this abcess of Football needs their head read.

     How the hell do you work that one out then Batman?:dunce:He was brought into Liverpool to make them into a Championship winning team, did he get anywhere near that? The players he bought were worse than what Dalglish bought for us! We need someone to take us further on, not backwards!

I am totally shocked by this tbh! I never thought they would actually sack him! Shearer can't take charge, and I don't think they would appoint him. O'Neil is the man, but can't see him leaving Celtic, especially with some amazing Champion League games coming up! Bobby is a total legend, he will always be so highly respected!

I am really worried, who is going to come in, Steve Bruce, he'll cost us loads! What else can happen this season already!!:( :( :(
