Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe Im pleased the Sunderland supporters have had a chance to pay for this statue rather than like you lot just letting your chairman pay for it for ya! Stokoe Statue Fund - Target Reached (December 20th, 2004) From safc.com The Statue for Stokoe appeal fund has reached its target of £73,000 after the announcement of contributions from Sunderland AFC and the City of Sunderland Council. The appeal was launched just over nine months ago following the death of Bob Stokoe, the man who led Sunderland AFC to an unforgettable FA Cup victory in 1973. A wide range of fund-raising initiatives have ensued, with the aim of raising £73,000 for a statue of Bob Stokoe to be sited at the Stadium of Light. The fund-raising push has included: collections at the Stadium of Light and in local pubs and clubs; celebrity golf days; sales of commemorative beer and a theatre performance. Lesley Callaghan, Marketing and Communications Director of Sunderland AFC, said: "Thanks to the generosity and efforts of local people, Sunderland supporters and donations from across the world, we are now in the position to commission the work on the statue to remember Bob Stokoe in way that reflects his popularity and stature. "We are very grateful to everyone that has supported us in reaching this important milestone." A working group, which has included representatives of Sunderland AFC, the City Council, supporters' and players' associations and the Sunderland Echo, has met regularly to develop plans for a permanent tribute to this well loved man who had made such an impact on the City. Cllr. Bob Symonds, Leader of Sunderland City Council, said: "I'm delighted that the City Council and Sunderland AFC are jointly supporting this project. "This will provide a lasting memorial to one of the key figures in Sunderland's cultural history and enable an early start on the production of the statue of Bob Stokoe." Proposals have already been received from a number of sculptors bidding to produce the statue. Having now reached the £73,000 target, commissioning of the statue will begin early in the New Year with installation hopefully approximately six to nine months later.
Re: Re: Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe We should'nt be to hard on the poor lad, obviously everything that has gone on with his club of late has taken its toll
Re: Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe It took 9 months to raise to £63,000!!! Yous lot are scum 10k came from official Newcaste sources
Re: Re: Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe I guess I just dont go SAFC.com as much as I used to Still it is a joke that it has taken so long to just raise the cash, never mind build ol Geordie's statue.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe Read what I wrote I am right the statue is not built. And after 9 long months the cash is raised WOW!!!! That statue should of been up long ago, dont you think so?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe It does not bother me in the slightest, all that matters is the money HAS been raised and the statue is on its way to being built, i suggest you pen your grievances to Robert Murray of Sunderland football club cause i dont think anyone on here gives two shits
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe Look Dickie I don't expect a racist sun reader like Harper to be arsed about a statue for Bob being built, but you were the kid that was talking about respect. I guess you only use the word respect as a quip but in reality you don't the meaning. It is shocking it has dragged on this long, it should of been up at the start of the season or at least the start of the FA Cup or when yous played Leeds.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe As long as it gets built to respect him all the other issues surrounding it are matterless.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Bob 'GEORDIE' Stokoe Its wrong that we live in world where a bar at football club can be built quicker than a sign of repsect
