    Bhoys beaten

Newcastle Acad 4 Celtic Acad 1

After losing 2-1 to Hearts last weekend, United's Academy side were again in friendly action at Little Benton on Friday afternoon, this time against their Celtic counterparts.

Team: Bartlett (Smith 46 ), Atkin, Farman, Edgar (Baxter 36), Shanks, Smylie, Paul O'Brien, Howe, Bates (Foster 82), Finnigan (Walton 46), Pattison (Marshall 46)
    Subs: All used.

12 mins Bates, Pattison and O'Brien combined well down the Newcastle left and when the latter crossed, Carl Finnigan was well-placed to put United ahead with a 12 yard effort 1-0

35 mins We doubled our advantage when Howe's centre from the left flank picked out Paul O'Brien's run into the box and he beat Celtic 'keeper Fox from 10 yards 2-0

    Ht Newcastle 2 Celtic 0

50 mins The goal of the game as Baxter's forward ball to Marc Walton saw the newly-arrived sub beat his man and curl a beautiful effort past the Celtic 'keeper 3-0

63 mins The Bhoys got one back when referee Stan Gate penalised Liam Atkin for a foul on Miller in the area. McGowan converted the resultant spot kick past substitute 'keeper Ben Smith 3-1

69 mins A simple but well-executed goal to round off the home win, as Chris Shanks headed home a Smylie corner from the left flank 4-1.
