i was thinking that, you have at least come close, there are clubs with similar delusions of grandeur that haven't done as well as newcastle in the past 10 - 12 years.

not saying we are mate ive followed the toon for 32 + years and we are the same now as we were then a mid table team who did ok at home and shite away with a little purple patch in the 90s when we nearly won something hopefully we might get back in the top 6 but unless the russian pulls out of chelsea i cant see anyone getting a sniff of the champions league for years to come and you end up with boring cup finals like last week

True, but neither club has been consistently successful for a while, not enough to warrant the broken record "big club" nonsense that gets spouted.

Tottenham may just stand a chance of breaking into the top four... but they have to start winning trophies before they can justify all the tripe the spuds fans like to harp on about.

You're right, i'd even say spurs fans are the worst in the country for gloating and being full of self importance, from my experience anyway! Still, there are a few clubs fans who delude themselves... i've seen a few villa fans big mouthing it down the years.

The only people who say Spurs are a big club are the pundits and journalists....the fans know we used to be good but arent so great anymore; however we arent far from it being right back up there. The only thing that could stop us is the massive amount of investment thats going on in the Top 4.


There arent many teams outside the Top 4 who can boast this at the moment.....

  2 5th place finishes in a row
  a good european campaign
  some good recent cup runs
  a spine of European class players and some excellent youthys
  loads of wonga and a very ambitious chairman
  a great manager who all the players adore
  a full stadium every week

At the moment, the only teams I am concerned about (again, outside the T4) are Villa and West Ham. Everton arent far off it but the lack of money and Kenwrights unwillingness to accept outside investment is going to damage them.
