Bellamy and Hughes off to Villa

Very suprised to see Souness let Hughes go ahead of O'Brien, i have always liked Hughes he is versatile and is the kind of professional every club needs just gets on with any job given to him with no complaints.

Aston Villa have agreed a combined fee with Newcastle to buy striker Craig Bellamy and defender Aaron Hughes.
Wales star Bellamy, 25, is currently on loan at Celtic after falling out publicly with boss Graeme Souness.

Now he will hold talks with Villa, as will Hughes, who is also 25 and a Northern Ireland international.

"I have spoken with (Magpies chairman) Freddy Shepherd and he accepted our cash offer for both players," said Villa chairman Doug Ellis.

Souness, the Newcastle manager, said Bellamy would never play for him again after the pair's relationship broke down earlier this season.

The Welshman, who played for Norwich and Coventry before joining Newcastle for £6m in 2001, is believed to be available for £5m.

That - plus his reported £45,000 per week wages - probably rules out Celtic, for whom Bellamy has fired nine goals in 13 games during his loan arrangement.

But it remains to be seen whether Bellamy will choose to join Villa, who have already snapped up Patrick Berger from Portsmouth on a free transfer.

Berger set for Aston Villa move

Berger will complete his switch in June when his Fratton Park contract expires.

Hughes has played 43 times for Northern Ireland and captained his country, as well as making 279 appearances for Newcastle.

He can play anywhere across the backline and also in midfield.

In my opinion Hughes is there best left back and third best centre half, very strange decision but this is Greame Souness we are talking about.

    Pete,

Hughes,O'B,Elliott & Shola all have the right attitude but there not up to job.....if only the likes of Robert,Bellamy & Paddy K had there attitude. I am just surprised it is a club as big as Villa that have went for Hughes, I would of thought one of the yo-yo clubs was more his level.

As for Bellamy best player in the North East last year bar none but he had to go.

yeah i know what u mean, its just with him being very versitile you would think he would be kept, escially since we dont have any cover at the club at the moment

    anyway...

offical nufc site has come out and said no fees have been agreed with any club for the 2 players

reckon he will want to stay at celtic than move to either villa or birmingham

Shame about Hughes. Not a player I'd want to get rid of, always does a canny job filling in tbf. I wonder if this will start a bidding war for Bellamy, I'm sure other's will come in for him

I'd take Robert, Hughes & Bellamy.

    Sounness is mad.

"Just like you, we hate Sounness too, walking in a Bellamy wonderland" :D
