hes not a good footballer imo, although he can finish. its a combination that has bombed very very badly with that mob in the past. major gamble him even scoring 10 goals in another shirt. hes a pure james beetie type risk buy
Geremi has gone for £1m today, combine that with his £56k PW wages, theres £2m banked over a year. Beckfords not going to be more than £3m/£3.3m ish. Go for it i say. With any luck he'll become amazing and we'll sell him to Real for £20m.
He looks like a hungry striker which is what Newcastle need atm. We'll never have another Asprillia, Ferdinand or Shearer anytime soon, we just need someone... anyone that has the proven ability to put the ball in the back of the net consistantly to get us out of this league. Shola & Caroll just dont seem to be cutting the mustard lately. Id love to see Beckford at the toon.
its a tough one. he will score goals in the fizzy pop leagues, lots of them... but our incentives this year are crystal clear = premier league. would there be much point in him switching clubs for half a season of football before he slipped down the pecking order due to being not prem standard? (saying that, this is newcastle we're on about we will probs go up and make him and shola our no.9 and no.10 expecting greatness against the likes of Vidic, Terry and Vermaelan)
Harewood was getting fitter and scoring goals at the level we're playing at. We should get him back in on loan until the end of the season and save the money to spend elsewhere or at the end of the season. Better the devil you know etc.
If we can get Beckford for 2/3 million then deffo worth a gamble. There is question marks over him but with 20 already this season and a perfomance yesterday to show that he can trouble Man Utd defence then reckon its worth it. Sooner have him than Harewood back.
We've got the quality to go straight back up, we just need a player that can finish when we deliver. The past 2 games we've struggled to capitalise against teams that are at the opposite end of the table, which simply shouldn't be happening. Out of all the loan players, id like to see Danny Simpson up here on a perm basis, he's been solid at the back for us.
i only found this out today. just turned 26, so if he is going to get any better, he's going to have to move to a bigger club very very soon. never going to be world-class but if we get him cheap enough he'll be a decent buy, even just for squad depth. we desperately need a left back too.
As cover for Enrique I presume. Beckford kinda reminds me of Andy Cole in his early days, not the best on the ball or controlling it, can't head for fuck but can finish. I'd take a punt like definitely. Talk on some NUFC message boards about it being between him and Boyd and I'd have to go with Beckford any day of the week.
aye. enrique has done well this season but he looked a bit shaky last year in the premiership. we don't even appear to have a reserve left back though, so we could definitely do with one. a right back would be a canny purchase too, given that danny simpson's loan ends this month (i think?).
Simpson goes back on the 18th, hope we agree to keep him for the rest of the season at least. Enrique has been immense so far this season. I agree that he did look shaky at times last year but I'm more than confident with age he can cope next year....if we go up!
slightly less dynamic than a early cole (he was lightning at bristol) but a great comparision. enrique is a brilliant player. good df good atk 7/10 every game, solid and hasnt moaned one bit even playing for them jokers
The money would be better spent on a bit of creativity for the middle of the park. It's no use buying a striker when they've got no supply, and the lads who are there now have proven they can score at this level anyway.
thing is, if we wait until the end of the season and get promoted, we'll be desperate for a couple of strikers, and will get raped in terms of prices. if we buy at least one now, it's cushioning the blow a bit.
